"saying I have a listing on line and I have to renew it"
That was a lie, trying to convince you that you were just agreeing to continue something you already had, so they can then bill you their "regular" listing charges, probably around $500.

Numerous complaints indicate they are running a fraudulent telemarketing scam.

They call to "renew your listing" or "verify your information" then bill you claiming you "agreed" to some internet directory listing.  They also are reported to use deceptively represented or doctored recordings as "proof" you or one of your employees "authorized" their charges.

They keep calling trying to catch you or one of your employees saying something (probably "yes") they can misrepresent or edit into some order script.

Do NOT believe any claims they make.  If you have problems or they make threats, file complaints with FTC, www.ic3.gov, and your state Attorney General.  If they keep calling trying to catch you off guard, file complaints with BBB.

Their number shows up as 000-000-0000 on my caller ID and I have repeatedly asked them to quit calling me.  This is my home and I do not own a small business, nor does my husband.  I can hardly understand what they are saying, as their accents are so thick.  Very frustrating!!

We have a large business and receive calls several times daily from people stating that we need to update our info and also get the statements in the mail. When we try to give them the main office number for billing we end up getting cussed at. Very rude! When we ask "may I give you the main number" they just cuss and say that they will just keep calling this number. Please beware!

I too have had many harrassing calls from people supposedly wanting a confirmation for the yellow pages.  I too have told them over and over again to stop calling.  Finally I just repeated no, about 50 times and told them I was not hanging up and they could continue to talk for 6 hours, I didn't care.  They had the nerve to tell me they would call again.  I asked for their manager and they continued to read the same script.  They finally did hang up on me.  How do I get rid of them?

Everyday around 9:30am monday through friday they call my business and want to verify information. I tell them everytime I am not interested and to stop calling. They tell me the only way they will stop calling me if I verify information. I then speak to another person who asks me questions and then tells me to say yes after a series of automated questions. If I do this they will take me off the call list. During the automated question I am told they will bill me $9.99 for the first month and then $39.99 thereafter, it will conveniently be added to my phone bill. It tells me to answer yes. I answer no, then the original person comes back on the phone and tells me I need to answer yes for them to stop calling. OK, right, they must figure we are morons!! And thus guy is getting pissed off at me.
I then hang up and decided to call my Verizon my phone carrier. I ask them if I can block this number and am told they have no way of doing so and advise me to make sure my phone number is registered with the (Do Not Call) center. I did this once again promptly and I didn't realize you have to register every year. Lets see whats happens now!

    REPORT THEM!
I was contacted by a yellowpages rep today at work, her name was Shelly. She said the owner of the business had called earlier asking to cancel the online listing and she wanted to know if he was available to speak with. I said he was not available at the moment and they asked if I was the secretary. I said yes. They said I would be authorized to make the decision to complete the cancellation. I said 'ok' because to my knowledge and experience, the owner usually doesn't like having to pay for things like 'yellow pages' and whatnot. I was told by Shelly that I would be transferred to another department that would provide me with a cancellation number. Whatever. I was then transferred to a woman named Sabrina who told me I would have to answer some questions first. She began by telling me this call will be recorded for quality assurance and training purposes. I said 'ok' reluctantly, because I always feel weird and uncomfortable when they say that for some reason, but I just wanted to get this over with. Then she asked me for my name and I said "Ashley" then she said "and can you provide me with your last name?" and i said "no i rather not give my full name for this cancellation, I'm a secretary and I think that my first name should be enough" so then she hurriedly told me that she couldn't complete the process and hung up. Okay, whatever, back to my work. Seconds later, I received a call back from 'Shelly' asking me 'what's wrong' and why wasn't it completed. Weird! I said it was because I was annoyed that she was asking me for my last name and I thought it was unnecessary, because this is not my business and I don't want to be involved in this whole thing, I was under the impression I was only going to get the cancellation number. Then Shelly told me "yeah you dont have to provide your last name, I will connect you and they will give you the cancellation number"... First of all, if this was legit, why wouldn't my boss have just canceled it right then, when he was supposedly on the phone? --AAGH! I have other things to do than be bothered with this.-- So then I get transferred to this other guy with an accent named Jay who also said he was a supervisor. That much I understood.  Okay so he asked me "So you wouldn't provide your last name? why not? what's the problem?" I said something along the lines of 'Well for one, I don't think its necessary. Shelly told me that I don't have to provide that information and all I'm supposed to do is collect a cancellation number.' and he sternly replied with "really? Shelly told you that? she said you don't have to provide your last name?" i said "yes, and I prefer you speak with the owner himself, he's right here and he can talk to you, I'm not the owner and I dont want to make any authorizations" and he said 'no we'll just put down that your name is Ashley Miller' and i said 'NO my name is NOT Ashley Miller and I don't want to go through with this, i rather you talk to the owner, because he's right here and he can do this himself.'  'No, that this cancellation could not be processed' and he hung up on me. .........Let me just say, SOUNDS LIKE A SCAM TO ME!

WTF. Who knows if this was even TRULY Yellow Pages? Any professional company would not have behaved like that. Or would they have? How am I supposed to know? I was taught that there are scammers always out there trying to collect your information so they could use your information that you provide in a recorded call, to tap into your accounts and whatnot and commit fraud, theft and who knows what else! My boss, who also happens to be my uncle, has told me never to give out my name and information especially when a call is recorded and no one can make you do or say anything you don't want to. I am sick of these people calling and harassing the innocent who have more important things to do with their work day.

THEN I told my boss about the call and he said he never even made a call about yellow pages and had no idea what I was talking about!!!!!!!!!!!!!

NOT THE WAY I WANTED TO START MY FRIDAY!

The number that called me was 682-300-2403
and I just Googled that number and SURE ENOUGH it's a scam!!

Here's what one person said in their post:

    4 May 2012
They will cut and paste your yes into a verbal contract.  Be aware!
    -----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Oh hell no! That right there is Un-American and we need to stand up and make these scam-calls illegal! NO PHONE SOLICITATION ALLOWED!

After 35 years of YP advertising I have been trying for several months now to quit and am convinced I am dealing with some sort of an advanced robot.
