Reported to be Macy's in-house collections department.
If you have a Macy's (or related card like Bloomingdales) you might want to call the customer service number off your card or statement to check if there is some issue with your account.
It appears to be a scam designed to get information from you. They claim they have 'important business regarding your account and it is not a solicitation call' or some such garbage. They called my husband's office looking for me a few times. He's partner at a major corporate law firm and that didn't stop them!
If you get a live person tell them to never call you again. If they do, file a police report (we can do this online in San Francisco). Also tell your local phone company.
This is macys collection departments # pay your bill on time and you will not receive courtesy calls they are just there to help make sure you don't run your credit...
Einstein, that's not how business works in this century. You don't walk into Macy's and say, "Put it on my tab!" and Jeb calls you 6 weeks later and reminds you to come in and pay. If you have a "Macy's" credit card it's issued through American Express. If you're getting legitimate calls from a collector that means that the debt has been sold off to a third party collection agency.
Hi I know this post is older but I actually work for Macy’s Collections Team, the phone number 1800-545-1256 is our toll free number for our Collections Department. If we are calling (the amount of times is per your state law) and it is a personal business matter in regards to your Macy’s or Bloomingdales account more than likely that it is over the credit limit or it is past due on a payment. We only call multiple times a day as we run on an auto dialer per how ever many times your state law allows until we make Customer Contact. Also per policy we are unable to note a do not call on a customers phone number unless that customer verbally verified that they are the customer, otherwise it would be noted a wrong number or non consent which means we would continue to contact that number manually and not on an auto dialer. So just a heads up not everything is a scam!
Also to add, the numbers you see on your caller id that may appear with a (513) area code are our dialer’s numbers for our Macy’s Credit and Customer Service call center in Mason, OH (hence the area code). Again we run on a dialer so your phone may issue that caller if as “Spam” it depends upon your service provider. Moral here is instead of coming up with theories possibly just fact check the scenario: if someone calls stating they are from Macy’s and you are uneasy, simply hang up and call the number on the back of your card, the number on your statement, or the number on the Macy’s website. Any of our agents will gladly search your account number, verify your name, date of birth, last 4 of your social and then we will speak with you. Or simply ask us to review a recent statement or transaction with you. Most scams are unable to do so.

This number has been calling me for at least a week on my mobile phone issued from work. I didn't answer because I don't know anybody in this area code (Cincinatti, Ohio). They never leave a message. Today I decided to answer it so that they would stop calling. At first they didn't respond to my hello, then like a sales call, all of a sudden they are there on the line. She said that she was from Macy's and my account was showing as past due. Would I like to give her my banking information so that she could "take care of that" for me?! We had just had Security training at work that alerted us to these scams - so right away, I said NO - that I would take care of it. This call left me with an uneasy feeling, I had to google on the number (513) 754-9822...sure enough! I'm not the only one...
just started receiving these calls, saw the Macy's Bloomies and was pretty sure my account is current and double checked, it is. it's the 513 # - I'm not answering and they don't leave messages. So clearly a scam! Please elderly people and naïve people could be so harmed by this. Any ideas how to deal with this?
Hi, if your account reflects current online take a closer look and ensure that Min Due for your next projected due date doesn’t include a past due amount. If it does not it may be a call in regards to you being Over the Credit Limit.
Umm, that's not necessarily the case. I worked for Macy's and NEVER had a credit card with them (only my employee debit card, which like all debit cards needs to be backed with cash). I stopped working for Macy's and even got a check from them for what was remaining on my debit card. Still getting calls.

sure enough, like the above i too have been receiving this call and have been ignoring it. Today I decided to answer and acted like i wasnt home, i took a message and it was re: personal business. I am not late or behind on any of my accounts so it made me uneasy. I plugged this # 1-800-545-1256, and found several complaints. Dont ever give out your info people!

That's funny, because the number I called on the back of my Macy's card said that the number given by the scammer is not a number that Macy's uses. Of course the scammer gave me a phone number that goes right back to them. LOSERS!

I have a complaint similar to WB above. The caller was from 1-800-545-1256 and claimed to be Mr. Cooley of FBS Bank on behalf of Macys.

They called me this morning asking for my daughter. When I asked what it was about they said, "it's about a personal financial matter". When I pressed some more they said, "we're not allowed to tell you what it's about...." and then when I pressed some more they said it's FBS or SBS bank on behalf of Macy's, and gave this callback number: 800 545-1256. My daughter said she doesn't even have a Macy's account because she paid it off and closed it two months ago. So I figured it's a scam and looked it up, and sure enough it looks like it's a scam. I told my daughter to not give them any information, because it seems like it's some kind of scam to get information out of people.
She may have paid her bill, but was probably late. She is in collections.

I have just started getting these calls. They told my sister it was a "personal matter" and to have me call them back at the 1800 number, but the caller ID was 5137549822. Thank goodness we looked up the number and got this information. I hope these people get busted.
