I paid my credit care on day it was due and then was told that they had not received it and charged me $39 for not paying it on time and will not reverse it.

I paid my WAMU card on their website three days before the due date. The payment didn't get processed, which I found out when the card was declined for a $3 charge a week later! So I instantly rescheduled the now 3 day late payment, including late charge and called WAMU Customer Service to get it resolved. Come to find out, they cut my $9000 line in half and after no late payments for over 7 years, they refused to restore the line or waive the late charge and I spoke to a (supposed) supervisor, who called my account DELINQUENT (that's the term for being 30 days late, not 3 days)! I cannot believe this lack of service and they have even admitted to website issues. I loved this account when it was with Providian, but now I am closing it.

Personally, I don't trust anything but paying credit cards with checks thru U.S. Mail. And I still insist on getting the cancelled checks back. Some banks and credit card companies are not yet ethical or competent enough to operate in a non-paper world with mere consumers, whatever they may claim.
Before WAMU purchased it, Providian had a reputation for faking "lost or late payments", including just shredding payments to get the late fees. They were sued over various unfair practices, including billing customers for unauthorized "credit insurance", and lost. That is partly why WAMU got such a deal on buying them. Send a written complaint to Kerry Killinger, CEO of WAMU. If he wants to build an empire, he has to make it work. That includes straightening out the companies he purchases. If they are still pulling this crap, he needs to fix it, especially with Providian's past reputation.
