New Micro SIM activation

I am a post paid customer of Airtel using the number +91 9818148175.
I changed my SIM yesterday afternoon, i.e. 28th of Oct. 2013, to a micro-SIM. The new SIM was bought at approximately 1.30 PM from an Airtel store located at Sector 15 market, Faridabad. I was told then that the connection would get activated in 4 hours time. 26 hours and numerous calls to customer care later, I am still waiting for my number to come alive !!!
I would like to know, is activation of micro SIM such a major job that it can take many hours? Or is it because Airtel customer service is so poor that activation takes multiple days ????
Can I expect a resolution ASAP ? Aitel - please note that I am not interested in automated responses.
Looking forward to the problem being fixed.
