Law firm is in business of debt collection.  Does the law firm have to be licensed or bonded per NJSA 45:18-1.

That would depend on NJ law.  Check with whatever agency in NJ is responsible for regulating debt collectors.

Many law firms are also debt collectors as defined in either federal law (FDCPA), or various state laws.  That is usually based on that they regularly engage in collection of debts originally owed to another party.

Many collection agencies are owned, or have a connection to, attorneys.  They find it useful to present an image of being a law firm collecting a debt, even if attorney involvement is minimal.

The attorney continued to state that the plaintiff is not a collection agency therefore not required to be licensed or bonded.  But I believe since the law firm is in the busines of collecting for their clients they should be licensed.  The judge continues to just make a ruling on the attorney's answer and not my defense in that the law firm should be licensed.  How do I get the judge to consider my defense and not just the answer of the attorney

I always knew that the law firm is required to be licensed.  I just can't get the judge to consider my defense.  Thanks for your reply
