Wash machine

Paid over $500.00 for a new wash machine.  One month later, I received information on purchasing an extended warranty. Why would I need that?  11 months into ownership the washer breaks. It will be covered under Maytag's 1 year parts and labor.  Big question, whose going to fix it? It's been 10 days and still waiting.  Lowe's says it is Maytag's problem.
