Thirty years ago I enrolled in Scandinavian Fitness Club. Many years ago they were bought by Bally Total Fitness. Since then they have closed all the fitness clubs that are within a reasonable distance. The closest one as of last year was about 25 miles (40-50 min driving) across town. So I did not renew my membership last year when I received notification by mail. Now I found out that they somehow got my credit card information and automatically renewed my membership. I am told but Bally that this autobilling is part of the standard Ballly contract when I joined, however, I never saw a Bally contract since I joined under Scandinavian. They said they would remove from autobilling as a courtesy, but would not refund the payment I did not authorize. They also would not cancel my membership over the phone and said I needed to mail it to their center with my membership number. Since I though my membership has lapsed I no longer have a card and I have no idea what my membership number is, and they declined to send it to me. I consider their billing practices as deceptive if not out right fraudulent. Buyer beware.
