AT & T Cingular wireless customer service

I have a Razor phone just over one year old very little use never dropped or misused which stopped working correctly, you press the #8 and a 3 is entered basically unusable as the entire key pad is inoperable. I went to my local cooperate AT and T Cingular store in Tucson Arizona and the rude unconcerned sales assistant informed me since I had 16 months left on my contract that I did not qualify for an upgrade and because I did not add the very overpriced phone insurance which was equal to the price of a new phone every six months they would not provide any support for the phone. Feeling very disappointed in the entire situation at the store I returned home and called customer service and explained the situation and my genuine disapproval of the Cingular method of support.
The service agents on the phone seemed genuinely concerned and eventually agreed to provide a 75 dollar credit toward a replacement phone and suggested I return to the store or any Cingular store and select a replacement and use the 75 dollar credit she had just noted to my account. The following day I returned to the same Cingular store with reluctance and again was rudely informed they did not accept any customer service credits and I would need to go through the service department I had called the previous day.
Which was absolutely contradictory too what I was directed to do by the agent I had spoken with the previous day. After explaining exactly what I had been told the prior day the store agent called customer service and handed me the phone. Now the phone agent explained the information I was given earlier was incorrect and I would only be able to receive the credit if I bought a replacement phone through him over the phone. I asked if I could see the options for phones on line and he explained yes but the prices would not be the same on-line or in the stores.
I then asked how much a replacement Razor phone would be through him. His response was 249.00 less the 75.00 dollar credit. Since I had paid 99.00 for the first phone I was outraged that they would try and continue to operate in such an unprofessional manner. In fact the same phone in the store was 149.00. It was obvious AT and T and Cingular secure in there 16 months of remaining contract were not going to provide any assistance for me. But, I would hope my experience would that concern other consumers and make them aware of the poor quality of Motorola products and the highway robbery methods of AT and T Cingular.
You would be well served to steer clear of any Motorola products and certainly any kind of association with AT and T Cingular. I will be taking my business elsewhere. While I am sure most of the wireless companies are ruthless in there methods of sales. I will at a minimum know any Motorola product is junk and pay close attention to the sales methods of any future program I select. It is a shame America even with its supposed benefits of completive markets has become inundated with very unprofessional cooperate operations who's profitability is achieved at any cost be it poor quality, deceptive sales practices or simple cost fixing. What happened to our American pride and moral compass in business?
