Since November 2008 I have received many, many calls for a guy I don't know, whose name seems to be vargas.  I don't know anyone by this name.  And, I'm totally upset as a 72+ year old man..... I don't need to be harassed by you folks who can't collect whatever it is.... from someone I've never known. Your techniquest are terrible.... I was just given this number by the telephone company who have advised any other number would be the same.....my mistake, to even think I can have a private line with some peace.  If this keeps happeneng I'll sue...

The bottom of the "debt collection" industry is made up of low-lifes who buy cheap accounts for pennies on the dollar, and then try to find someone to get money from by threats and harassment.  They really don't care who they get money from, so they work more on their deceptive and threatening scripts than on finding the correct "John Smith".  Most of this stuff is so old it's fallen off credit reports, and they can't sue, but they will threaten anyway.  It's a job that attracts people who like to bully and threaten others.

FTC just sued a bunch of them operating out of southern California.

If it has been going on since 2008, you might be better to change numbers.  It's just chance whether your new number is better than your old one.

You can get boxes to insert between your incoming line and your phones that screens out all autodialed callers.

If you post the phone number, it is easy to look it up with Google, or on 800notes, to see who they are and what their game is.
