I bought this Maytag Centennial MVWC200XW washer from Home Depot June 2011 and it still washes OK BUT,  last week an intermittent screeching noise started up and continues during the wash cycle.  Sounds like some gears are slipping.  Of course this would have to happen shortly after the 1 year warranty expires!  I am afraid this noise is signalling trouble coming soon.  DO NOT BUY THIS MACHINE!  I wish I had read the reviews out this washer before I bought one.  Has anyone else had this problem?

Yes..we had the same problem 14 months after we bought the washer. The repair man came out and said the gears were completely out along with the computer board. They told us to buy the extended warranty which we did. Then they told us they were refunding the money for the extended warranty because it wasnt cost effective for them to fix it. I called Maytag and they will do NOTHING about it. The only thing they offered us was to send us a new washer that we pay for again and they would take off the year we had the other one, which would be $398 plus shipping of $175 that we would have to come up with. Unbelievable. We called numerous times and Maytag will not honor their product. These washers are defective. No one should have to buy a new washer 14 months later. It is still sitting and is useless.

Had my Maytag 13 months and it sounds like the gears are going bad.  I can't believe Maytag would sell this product! It is junk!  It is still running, but for how long?
