I had the same thing happen to me.  First I was unable to cancel my membership online or on the phone.  My husband could not do it for me.  I went in and tried to transfer my membership to my son and was told mine was cancelled at the end of the month.  They took my cards.  Gave me a two week pass for me and a friend.  Signed my son up and I signed electronically and even asked and was assured mine was cancelled by this manager with my sales rep present and my son too.  I was charged about $189 and now I am paying for two memberships including the one I cancelled.  That took one hour not counting my husbands previous visit where he was told I could only do it person. I did do it in person but it was not done after all cause two months later i am told after stopping by again and speaking with the front office person there that no one was in but he filled out a form and did not clarify on it that i was in two ,onths earlier just that i wanted a cancellation of my policy   I signed it after adding ex to the member line and stating i wanted two months reimbursement   Then i get a call back on it and a message left that said too bad   They have no record of my request in mid October yet they have my son's new membership record and i would have to come back in and fill out a cancellation request with another 30 day wait after the end of the month   Then I ask for that person's manager since the other person left work at 4 pm. And that person is in a meeting.  I tell them to tell that manager I am filing a lawsuit against them and suddenly that person is out of a meeting.  That's when I find out that they even say don't trust their own salespeople.  If I am uncomfortable with salespeople to go to the counter people (which i already did)   Plus i was not uncomfortable with the salespeople at all since they gleefully added my son to a new membership and was canceling mine   Then i hear i should have gotten sent to the female person behind the counter and sign a paper copy.  How would I know their own policy if their salespeople don't know it?  Besides you can add people electronically but I am to know you can't cancel electronically there in Ed son or not to trust their own salespeople?   Well this manager cancels the policy over the phone and later tells me I could have cancelled by certified letter but again how do I find that info and she says that is why she's telling me!?!   She can also only refund December's fee but not November and will write corporate to get back November's fee.   I asked how would I know that she requested it and she agreed to copy me on the email, which DID occur.   But if I don't get November's fee back you can bet I will sue for it.   It is the principal of the matter.    I have spent more time trying to cancel this damn membership than I ever spent in there.  Course they are making sure to drag it out and make it so inconvenient for you that you pay three extra months on a policy they say you can cancel anytime.  No alignment of staff with ethics or customer service goals or a growing customer base by referrals.   Save yourself some time in your life and send a certified letter when you want to cancel.  It's not worth your hours of time and multiple trips and millions of interruptions with the front office people while guests come in without a card and the front desk phone ringing nonstop and you are getting the run around.

I had the same thing with LA fitness in Anaheim Hill and now they automatically charge from the checking accounts. What shall we do? They won't answer back.

Please add me to the the class action lawsuit.  I had a similar situation on the Willowbrook Lifetime fitness - personal training portion.  They use unethical tactics when someone wants to cancel.  The same about his is they would have have a customer in me again later if they had not done this.  They charged my card over 1000.00 for personal training I would not approve.

They ahve been deducting my account for $85 per month for alst 1 year, which I failed to notice. Now I call them, they are givign me all kind of crap. How do I file a case against these guys.

They are pulling similar crap to me. My credit card expired and they act as though I am under some commitment to them until I go in and cancel my membership or send them a registered letter stating that I want my membership cancelled. In the meanwhile they are sending me emails saying that I have a past due balance. I have not been there since before my credit card expired and they bill a month in advance. They have never sent me a single piece of mail through the postal service or offered a statement of any kind. I am trying to figure out if they have my SSN and if they can try to mess with my credit rating. My reaction is that I will never do business with them again and I will make sure to give them a negative review anywhere and everywhere possible.

You are telling us that you are not sure if you provided your SS - Life Time never ask anyone for SS numbers
Canceling the membership is quite easy. Just drove by and signed your terminations and hard or electronic copy of the cancellation. End of the issue.

I too am having the same problem with Lifetime. I have been trying to cancel my membership with them for 7 months and everytime I talk with them, email them or send them a letter they tell me they cannot cancel my membership. I get 2 emails a day stating ACTION REQUIRED - PAST DUE BALANCE.

I told them to shove it up their *** and I am filing a lawsuit against them. If you read the membership agreement, it never states how you are to cancel the membership. It is an open end agreement with no contract length provision. They will find every excuse not to allow you out of the agreement.

Same thing is happening to me. Had to go back to California to take care of my dad who got cancer. I told LifeTime this on the phone and they convinced me to put my account on hold for $15/month. Fine. Three months later I found out that they have been charging me full price. I then tried to call and cancel but they told me I could not cancel over the phone, that I had to drive 15 hours to the nearest LifeTime fitness to cancel. If you have filed a lawsuit please include me. pb0358@gmail.com

This is weird.   Someone did NOT cancel their membership,... Provided an expired credit card and are upset that they are getting billing problems?   Granted,.. Sometimes my purchases or charges at LifetimeAthletic get frustrating or confusing- but they have all been adjusted right away.

    You people are so funny.

You let your card expire? You're still responsible for fees unless you cancelled. That's kinda how it works anywhere, not just at a gym.

When you join lifetime there is a clause you sign that states you must cancel in person. Not too hard to read. This is also something that is done at many facilities outside of just gyms.

Whatever you feelings are on it, if you sign legal documentation, you are responsible for it.

Good luck getting a judge to take any of this seriously. I see that it has been open for 5 years now? Lol.

    Bryan works for Lifetime.

Similar situation, they told me the ONLY way to cancel was in person.  That isn't true, it's not in the clause, you are allowed to send a letter.  I called, they told me I had to be there in person.  Then they continued to charge me for 3 months, and then begged me to make a deal with them for 90% reduction in the bill as long as I signed up again.  Also told them to shove it, this is a bill I will never pay and will jump on any class-action forming.

    Great gyms, bad business.

I am another victim who is being charged $480 after cancelling my membership three months prior. So on their reviews I added buyer beware this company scored an F with the Better Business Bureau. If I would've read this before signing, I would have turned away. Good luck to all of you that are going through this ordeal. TOGETHER WE ARE STRONG!!!

Same experience.  Like whack-a-mole -- canceled last year and there were no charges for 10 mos and now the charges have popped up again.  When we call every responsible person is in meetings and will call back but they don't call back.
