I got a payday loan over four years ago off line for 300.00 and I had forgot all about it because of personal things going on know I have this guy calling from Ohio telling me that he is an investigator and he has a warrant for my arrest and he is having me put in jail. For not paying this I have spoke to him and he told me it was over 1500.00 dollars and it was check fraud and he would make sure I would go to jail if I did not pay at least 750.00 today. What can I do about this?????

More likely it's a swindler calling to try to con you.

They often pull this scam, attempting to get YOU to disclose what you might think is the debt they will then claim they are collecting on.

It's a common shakedown con, and threats of arrest are one of the key indicators that it's a scam.

If it's a legitimate debt collector, with the right to collect on the debt, they will send you written notice thorugh the US Mail of the alleged debt, and you will be able to dispute and request proof you actually owe it, in compliance with FTCPA.

If it's one of the swindlers or extortionists, like this sounds like, they will NEVER send you the FDCPA required "g" letter.  They will instead rely on anonymous phone harassment and illegal threats, like you are receiving.

Although some of these scams are US based, many are calling from overseas, often India or Pakistan.
    Any thick accents?

You can verify this by calling your local FBI field office.
