After receiving an offer for Direct TV I called them and asked about their service. I asked the rep no less then 3 times what my total monthly bill would be. I really stressed the TOTAL amount. She told me it would be $44.99. I agreed to the service. I asked what day of the month the autopay would come out of my checking account, she said she did not know but I would never be charged until I got my monthly statement. Well low and behold I checked my bank account and they had charged me $70 something dollars and I had not received my first statement. I called them and canceled my service and explained to them that was not the agreed upon amount. The rep I talked to was extremely rude and told me I should have known I had to pay a monthly receiver rental fee as everyone charges this, (everyone does NOT charge this, DishNetwork does not). I told her that fee was never mentioned when I ordered the service. When I did get the statement there it was and also the programming charge was more then they stated it would be also. I sent the equipment back just like they asked. Then they tried to take $302 out of my checking account without my knowledge. Luckily I had closed that account before they could get their greedy hands on it. I paid them in full, actually was overcharged for the 1 month of service I had with them. Now they have turned me into collections and are harrassing me on a daily basis. The DirectTV company is absolutely the worst company I've ever had the misfortune to deal with. How do they get away with this? Also when I went back thru the paperwork the installer left with me, no copy of a contract of any kind was there. This company is the most underhanded, shady, dishonest and greedy of any I have ever come across. Again, this is America, how do they get away with this????

I'm now on the same boat as most here. The Directv reps have officially lied to my wife and I. I called to have one of our receivers upgraded to a HD DVR one and repeatedly asked the rep if this would affect our subscription plan. I was specific as to the reason of me asking which is that our subscription was up in a few more months and we were looking into a no contract cable television instead. The rep advised me clearly each time I asked that this was only a receiver switch out and it would not affect my subscription plan. 2 months later we decided to change to another provider in the area after deciding to pay some fees to cancel early. When I called to cancel they tried to talk me into staying (not surprised) with them, but I declined. Then the rep told me the words I was dreading I would once hear. "But sir, you have over $400 dollars in ONLY early cancellation fees." He advised me that I had RENEWED my subscription once I accepted the receiver. I pleaded with the guy and even spoke with his supervisor who only tried to sell me more Directv services. I declined and told them they wouldnt see a penny more of my money than what I owed. He refused to calculate what my remaining balance since he could not separate them from the total balance that I really owed (huh?). I laughed and told them to send the boxes for their receivers because my wife and I would not pay for it.

Now a few months later I found it kinda odd that they had stopped calling me, but it was my wife's name on the line right? I mean she already was the one with the bad credit unlike me. It was all her information on the Directc account. Wrong! The lieing [***] must have proceeded to deduct approximately $1000 from ANY credit cards or bank accounts used in the past. Guess who's debit card had been used as a credit card in the past. Yours truly telling you the story here today.

I have disputed this with my bank as of today and will be finding out how they will be approaching the matter next week. I am very nervous because I recently was layed off so this is the worst time to be out of an extra $1000 that I busted my hump for. Freakin crooks!!

My husband and I thought we would try direct tv and it has been horrible!!!! Our package was suppose to cost $50.00 dollars a month for 12 months and after that, it was only going to increase $18.00 dollars. We went with them trying to reduce our bill and they increased it! They LIED!!!! They sent us a bill for over $200.00 dollars. They did not give us the package we agreed on. They broke the contract when they kept increasing our bill. It hasn't been 12 months yet! How long do they think they will stay in business? The bad reputation of direct tv is getting around quickly! I am going to file my complaints. We all have to stand together!

I called to sign up for service after getting a flyer saying 29.99 a month.  They said getting an HD DVR dish would be an extra 10 a month, bringing it to 39.99.  I signed up and nothing was said about a rebate to get the 39.99 a month price.  Two months later they charged me 65.99 per motnh for the first two months.  When I called they they claimed they sent me an email explaining the rebates.  After signing up they literally spammed me with like 5 emails a day which I did not read as it was never explained tome that these emails had contract info in them.

When I signed up on the phone I was told the 39.99 would be good for two years.  When I called in I was told that that was not true and it would go up to 54.99 in the second year.

The bottom line is that Directv TV misrepresents and outright lies about their pricing.  I would avoid them at all costs.

Same BS from them.  Quoted 54.99 now its 72.99. Numerous other lies about the cost.  They apparently have no phone in the corporate office.  Their complaint dept. confirmed the price quote through their review process.  Actually 3 of the 5 lies were confirmed the other 2 they say were not.  I know they are lying about those also.  PLEASE AVOID AT ALL COST.  I fully intend to complain complain complain, and inform everyone I know.  I suggest everyone do this.  Word of mouth is the best defense against these type of crooks.
