Problems cancelling membership and subsequent late charge

Our daughter became a member of Blast with the monthly charge going to our credit card. She didn't like the club as it was not open 24 hours and after a few months she completed a cancellation form AND sent in an email to cancel the membership. I wasn't aware that the membership wasn't cancelled until after we had our credit card # changed due to a vendor security breach. ABC Financial called indicating that our payment was late; at that time, I explained that the membership had been cancelled several months ago. They stated that they never received either the cancellation form or the email. I took matters into my own hands and went to the fitness center, filled out the form and sent an email. Not only were we charged another 20.99, but we were also change a 29.00 late fee. I'm now paying 49.00 in the form of a check. The fact that they make cancelling a membership so incredibly difficult is ridiculous. It truly is a ploy to try and milk the unsuspecting consumer (or young consumer) for money. I learned my lesson... always check the online rip off reports and complaints.
