I've been a customer of DTV since 2010.  I moved from California to Colorado and took my service with me which included an HD DVR.  I had service hooked up in my new apartment and of course they added a new contract which I understood.  I knew that I would be moving in a year so a couple of months before that I called to find out exactly when my contract was up and was told by the rep that my committment had been fulfilled.  I asked for confirmation of this via email and was told they didn't do that and that she would note this on my account. When I called recently to cancel my service because I was moving into my familys home which was already wired with another cable company, I specifically asked about my contract and any fees owed.  I was told again that my contract was up and I was on month to month and I would only owe a pro-rated amount of approximately $58.00 plus tax for my months service.  I again asked for a confirmation email or letter stating that I had NO CANCELLATION FEES and the rep told me they didn't do that and to rest assured that when I got my statement it would only be for the pro-rated amount plus taxes.  Within a few days after my service was shut off, I get a statement in the amount of $298.00!!  It was a $240.00 cancellation fee and my service.  I immediately called DTV to dispute this amount, letting them know ALL the info I was given and the specific dates I was told that I no longer had a contract with them.  I was told over and over by the rep, her manager, and another manager that there were no notes as to my contract being completed.  I was also told that the rep I did the cancellation with put in his notes that I told him I was leaving DTV because I got a BETTER DEAL with another cable company!!!!  I NEVER SAID THIS, so he LIED about what I said and they both lied to me!  I continued to complain about the way I was treated and lied to and misled and all I got back was "this is a valid charge and if you don't pay it by a certain date, we will take the amount out of your bank account with the debit card you used to pay your bill!"  So basically, they THREATENED ME!  I'm the VALUED CUSTOMER, AREN'T I?  I guess it doesn't matter that their employees are lying to customers and lying about what we say either?  I hung up and immediately called my bank and cancelled my debit card and when I explained to the bank why they were APPALLED that this HUGE COMPANY would treat a customer this way!!  I called DTV back and spoke to a supervisor in the cancellation department and heard the same thing:  IT'S A VALID CHARGE!  Again, it doesn't matter that I was lied to over and over!!  I was then given an email address that was supposed to connect me with the president of DTV and for me to write my complaint and account # and all these notes would be present when he got my email.  Guess what??  I tried that email and it doesn't exist!!!  Geeeee...so I contacted Consumer Affairs and put in a complaint and now I'm here and I'll continue to do this!!!  I'm not going to pay a penny of that fee other than my service that I used.  Had they told me I would have a cancellation fee, I would have figured something else out to do.  DIRECT TV IS A COMPANY WITHOUT INTEGRITY AND HAS IDIOTS WORKING FOR THEM!!!!!  Yes...I'M ANGRY!!!
