lying about cancelled flight

I booked a flight with this company for a flight with a 45 minute layover. I deliberately chose that ticket for the shortness of the layover. A few wks after my purchase I received a notification telling me that the flight had been changed and that the layover would now be 8.25 hrs. I was told that if I did not "accept" this change "you may lose the value of your ticket." When I called to ask about this change I was told that "the airline cancelled the flight." I checked with the airline and was told that the flight had not been cancelled. I sent an email to cheapoair and told them that I did not accept this change, though I had done so in error after their second notice that I "may lose the value of your ticket if you do not accept." I consider this tactic deliberately intimidating. Lying about the original booking having been cancelled is not acceptable business practice. So far I have received no response to my statement that I did not accept this change.
