They are running a telemarketing scam claiming to sell some "government grant" package. They typically try to sign people up for some "free trial" for "just shipping and handling", and pile on additional charges later once they get your account information.

I was getting 888, 800 and "out of area" calls 4 to 7 times a day. Verizon has a wonderful feature called "Caller Intercept". It costs about $6.00 a month. The feature also has "call blocking." Once you subscribe, "Out of Area and Non identified callers will be asked to identify themselves. You can choose to allow any number of numbers to be unblocked as well as certain numbers to be blocked. All of these options are easily accomplished by dialing Verizon's toll free number with your passcode. The system will prompt you for all he options. Bottom line: I finally have peace and quiet. The $6.00 is worth every penny!!!
