*FRAUD*Digital Star/Amazon complaint

My account information was saved on my Amazon account because I recently purchased the Kindle Fire and I had to do that in order to purchase stuff. I am in Houston TX and I was charged for the same amount as you for $149.99 but my bank let me get the money back the same day. Bank of America wanted me to wait until it was processed and then said I would have to dispute it but I refused to let that happen since I did not authorize that payment. It was from Digital Star and they have a website but when you try to go to it there is nothing on there- no webpage displays. When I spoke with the fraud department of Bank of America they said that Digital Star is not in the United States and it is out of the country. I am going to call Amazon and report this because this is ridiculous. I hope everyone gets their money back. I had to cancel my card and get a new one. Good luck to everyone and be careful with Amazon.

this recently happened to me as well and in the same amount . My location is in San Antonio, TX. They claim that they can only do a claim for an investigation. hopefully this can be resolved bc this is such an inconvience to all of us especially if we are amzon shoppers that we can no longer trust a company to keep bank accounts/credit cards safe for their customers.

Numerous similar reports of fraudulent charges are being reported on other threads.  It appears that "Digital Star Ltd." was "dissolved" on Jan. 29, 2012.  It looks like their merchant account is now under control of criminals submitting fraudulent charges.

    Main thread:

If you are getting fraudulent charges, IMMEDIATELY block the card number, and submit a fraud dispute to your bank.  Your bank can reverse fraudulent charges if you dispute promptly.Reply !

Yeah, these crooks are from Britain.  I'm really sick of these damn people and their damn accents.  They're taking over our country.

Just to make you aware that not all British are con artists or scammers and it is very unfair of you to say so.  Imagine if I made a derogatory generalisation of Americans, you wouldn't like it would you?

Actually, the company's registration information shows middle eastern names.

It's not clear whether those are the people running this, or whether some crooks took over their merchant account as they were dissolving the company.

          No matter.

If consumers filed prompt disputes, the payment processor who let all this continue so long is on the hook for the losses.

Reports tapered off in March, so maybe they finally got shut down, after about 2 months.

I would just like to know how they got my card number because I don't shop online or pay online.  Same problem here.  Had to cancel my card last night/early this morning.  Unfortunately, my bank is making me wait to get the money back.  Right now it is sitting in pending status and they said I can't dispute it until it goes into posted.

The policies of the banks to force consumers to let the charges go through before disputing, rather than blocking the charges in cases like this where numerous fraudulent charges are occurring, results in increased potential for fraud losses and costs to consumers when fraudulent charges are made to debit cards, removing money directly from their checking accounts.

Block your debit cards, and do not get them replaced.

Use only credit cards for online or retail purchases, as the federal protections are stronger.
If you must, get an ATM card requiring a PIN for access to your bank's own ATM machines.
