I have been trying to get ahold of someone for 3 days and continuously get the same recording stating that they are "experiencing temporary difficulties and are unable to take calls and to call back later". I don't know how 3 days is temporary. And that is only how long I have been trying. It could be longer. My only saving grace is that I have re-financed so will soon no longer have to deal with them. However, if I don't get through soon, they will take out another house payment and then not get my $$$ back.

If they take a payment beyond what is owed, due to the loan payoff, the excess is refundable, or alternatively, the overpayment to pay off the loan balance is similarly refundable.
The only differences resulting from shifting the closing date should be the marginal differences due to the interest rates of the old vs. new loan and the differences due to exact partial month payoff of the old loan and partial month prepaid interest on the new loan.
Your HUD1 statement should reconcile all amounts due from/to all parties.
If any amount is still due from HSBC outside of escrow, submit a RESPA dispute and request it.
If you have problems getting a response, file a complaint against them through HUD.
