holes in clothes

I am so glad I am not the only one. We bought our washer and dryer in February 2012. Now I am regretting it. My husband just bought a brand new sweater and not only does it have holes in the sleeve, the sleeve is covered in detergent! This is not the only article of clothing, but this one put me over the edge. I have three kids and new clothes, never been worn showed up with holes!!!!!!!! Has anyone found the best solution? It is still under warranty, but we don't have money to replace it right now. Plus, what is the best product out there for washer and dryers? What is recommended?
