Cancelation process a joke

It is nearly impossible to cancel your membership. My family and I had a group membership and tried to cancel and upon doing so LA Fitness would not follow through on the request because of a phony e-mail address that no one in my family had heard of that was on the account and they said that we would have to respond to an email on the account to cancel and we obviously cannot do that to an email account we don't own. We are still paying for this stupid gym membership it's ridiculous and so wrong.
