I visited the "Red Lobster" @ 20 Dundas St. West, Toronto, ON M5G2C2 my receipt dated July 15 2012 about 07:46 pm when I had enough, and left very upset. While waiting for my Mega-Bus departure which was located across the street from the location. Which at the time i thought was a perfect location, I am sad to say is not the correct restaurant to be located in such a busy location.
I sat at the bar section of the bar because i was waiting for my bus to arrive at 10pm, and thought I would sit after having such a great time in Toronto where most of my stay til this incident was great. Toronto, people are very nice, and polite generally.
Incidentally, the Red Lobster @ 20 Dundas St, West staff is unprofessional, as i sat for appetizers, and a drink to relax before my long journey home, I thought I chose this restaurant over other restaurants nearby.
As i sat at the bar, a male black bartender finally approached me, he never greeted me, and said hello or how are you today, he went right into asking what will i have, and being that i don't work there, and know the menu by hard. I said i just wanted appetizers, and a drink. He stepped away for a short time, and a another waiter at the bar approached, and said are you being helped? I said I thought the other bartend waiter was waiting on me, but guess not he never returned. So, I asked her for a menu, yes I sat a long time before I was even given a menu. Oh well, she gave me a menu, and then she left, she never said I'll be right back or anything, so when i was ready to order, and watching the time for my bus, I was saying to myself this is so unprofessional, and will I have time to place my order in time to enjoy my meal, and drink.
The male black bartender, and female white waitress, named Lindsay kept talking back, and forth amongst themselves about me. I am black as well so I'm not picking on the male black bartender, but he right away took an attitude with me for no reason. I never met this guy before, and just wanted to finish my stay in Toronto off with an appetizer, and drink. The waitress Lindsay seem to be listening to him, i guess because they're friends, and work together. However, they weren't aware i could hear them talk about me the (customer) whom without us they would not have a job. So, after she disappeared again, i asked a host waitress for anyone who could take my order she abruptly said you just have to wait til the waitress returned.
By the time she returned, and took my order, I thought to myself are you the customer or the worker? So, I came to the conclusion that I would just pay for my (1) drink, and cancel my order just placed.
I thought as an adult why should i feel inadequate as a customer, and then pay to be tortured on top of it all. So, I cancelled my order told the waitress Lindsay that it wasn't her which it wasn't totally. She was a little unprofessional about walking away without saying I'll be right back, and taking so long to return, but she did have an ok attitude. Her only crime would be listening to another co-worker and transferring his feeling toward me onto her without knowing exactly what occurred. She did ask if I wanted to speak to the manager, and I said no, after tipping her. Then another customer sitting behind me asked if i was ok, and I said no, and told another customer about my ordeal. The other customer looked over at the bartender, and shook his head.
So, when i left, I decided to speak to the manager, and the manager was the same person that this arrogant bartender name unknown other than stating he was a male black bartender, however he had just told her she would have to get something she asked for herself because he was too busy. Really, he'd better be glad I wasn't his manager, not only would he had stopped to do what I asked, he might have been given a warning based on how many complaints he already gotten from customers. So, basically when I complained to her manager Anat Lederman whom i lodged complaint fell on death ears, because i think she was kinda afraid of the bartender. He intimidated her, and I noticed this before I even knew she was the manager. She tried to rectify things by trying to seat me at a table which as i said time was of the essence, and as the customer, why should i be inconvenience because the manager was afraid of her staff.
So, after she was repetitive in her request of not hearing a word i said or my grievance, and seating me elsewhere. I told her forget it, and that i would go down stairs to "PICKLES" her competitor for my appetizers, and drink which i did, and could honestly say they were very nice as the other people I encountered during my whole stay in Toronto. So, no i would not suggest a visit to this Red Lobster location @ 20 Dundas St, West, no way.
I've already told friends, if they visit Toronto to not patronage this location. It left a bad taste in my mouth at the end of my stay in Toronto, but I'm over it now, but wanted to tell other future customers to be forewarned. I'm from the states, and before reading other complaints thought, I was treated poorly because I was from the States. But, now i think they're not very professional or well trained, and complacent.
