Timeshare scam
Complaint
Deborah
Country: United States
When we arrived at the airport in Cozumel a man approached us and said he was a "Tourist Advisory". He gave us some pointers about what to see while we are there, and then offered a good deal on a car rental. We agreed to rent a car from him and he gave us an invoice with signatures saying it was paid in full. The man also invited us to visit a newly built Mayan Palace and listen to a one-hour presentation on timeshares.
We didn't know if we would have time to do it and we said so.
When we were at the airport a week later getting ready to register for our flight home, the same man approached us and said we owe him a balance of $200 because we didn't listen to his presentation. He then showed us our invoice with fine print that said in order to get the car rental rate we received we would need to listen to the presentation. He then threatened us with police.
We paid the money with our credit card and now I have requested my bank to cancel that transaction.
Do not get caught in this scam! It's a well played game. Do not get caught in it.

Perhaps this also explains why they are using the Wyndham Vacation rentals name by agreement for certain properties, so as to entice new customers to believe that they are owned by the Wyndham instead of the Grupo Mayan. You learn something every day of the week! I wonder why they behave like this? Does it not catch up with them in the end? Surely honesty proves to be the best policy!
I do realise now how much we were lied to at the Mayan Palace.....there was nothing given to us in writing of what they were saying to prove that it was to some extent factual. They never used the word timeshare either, not once!!! And I was very weak and sleepy after the coffee served to me by the waitress in uniform that day of the 8th May, 2008. I drank three cups and was hardly able to walk about. I was asleep on my feet, as it were. These things should not happen. We were not even from the US but the UK, even further away, some ten hour flight away!!! Shame on them!
I have been told that they are paying money to certain websites to keep their profile in a good light! And also there have been a lot of court cases with them in the U.S. Mexico is now the permanent headquarters as far as I see for the "Lyin' Mayan", as someone once called them. They need to clean up their act!
or any of their fake names!!

They got the best Scan Artist working for them, the best hasslers in the world, watch for my posting to come, I will make sure the all United State knows about the Mayan, how everything works from the moment you get to the reception area, all the tricks involve from the moment you are send there by RCI or any other.
By the way watch for RCI, in association with the resorts they will open a credit card in your name allowing the resorts to charge them self for what ever amount they are selling you the membership for; details to come.
By the way I do not work for any time share. I'm just a victim of the Mayan system and got cut up on ti.
I will destroy the reputation by telling the truth and exposing their tactics.
Maya I am your worth enemy.

I don't know you are but if you work for the Mayan, I will make you an automatic Scam Artist, a Ladron, Ratero, Malechor, but know that you are a Mayan sales person you are used to hearing this kind of word, as a matter of fact I can tell by your response that you are a true criminal
I fought One of them and the worst thing you can do is to use the Internet and advertised the names of all the people involve and what they did.
I was able to recover my money this way, it took a long time, they think that because we live in the USA we can not fight they system, when you sing papers with the Mayan Palace or any other resort they claimed that you are subject to Mexican law, which mean they win automatically, all they have to do is paid a corrupt Judge (all of them) and they are free of guilt.
Find them using the Internet. Expose your story.
My wife and I were also duped with gifts to come and see this timeshare scam. I kept asking for a "guarantee" or "proof" to everything they promised. They just kept double-talking and repeated themselves over and over again. After 5 hours, the price went from $90K to $9K and we bought (temporarily). Back at our hotel, I looked up the Grand Mayan and two days later we went back to cancel. They refused to let us cancel (which is illegal). They wanted us to make an appointment the morning before our flight left. I didn't have 5 hours to argue with them again so we sent an email cancellation from the hotel. I got home and sent a fax cancellation then sent a certified letter to the hotel. Finally they acknowledged my cancellation (within the 5 day period). I also contacted Profeco. Who knows, maybe they are paying everyone in Mexico off to keep quiet. Fortunately, I realized soon enough what a scam this place is. For your family's money- DO NOT BUY AT AT THE MAYAN.
On January 19, 2012, my husband and I were also scammed into going to the timeshare crap at the Grand Mayan. Some dirty mexican in Puerto Vallarta stopped us while we were shopping, his name was "Marco"...well after being promised a free 1 week vacation and a lot of other things...we found ourselves in a 2+ hour not 30-60 minute timeshare presentation at this place.
After Saying NO to the $38K deal, the price kept changing and dropping. They would not let us leave or give us what we were promised. By the time we headed out of there to the "gift area", which is technically the place were they couldn't close the deal in the hotel, they send you here for someone to push a hard sale and push a close the sale. Again numbers dropped, we were shown a forclosure timeshare for as little as $82 per month and apparently we were told no maintenance fees, LIES. Lastly, at their final attempt, they promised us $1,600, for 50 weeks, a disneycruise, and a 2 bedroom. Why go from 38k for a 1 bedroom and drop down to $1600. Thankfully, we turned it down and got the hell out of there.
To all you Americans going to Puerto Vallarta especically if you cruising on a ship, DO NOT GET SCAMMED BY THE LOCALS. DONT GO! Tell them to "F" Off and walk away quickly. IF it sounds too good to be true it is. Enjoy your vacation, if you dont want to shop in this hell hole, go do an excursion or stay on the ship!
To hell with not buying at the Mayan, dont go at all!! Stay away from Nuevo Vallarta!
Is easy to get a timeshare, the problem is the trap behind the offer.
Before you get a timeshare, inquire about them.
