Received a call from someone stating they were from Tmobile and that someone tried to change my address and purchase an iPhone X using my account.  When answering that it was not me, person said they would send me a code to my cell phone and I was to give it to her.  Once I did, boom, my phone disconnected and I lost service.  My phone number had been hijacked.  Earlier in the day I had gotten a text message, which I thought was spam, stating "welcome to smartmobile" with my phone number.  I ignored it but changed my passwords anyway.  Apparently, they buy a prepaid phone and they scam you into porting the number.  Luckily I caught it right away!

Sounds like T-Mobile uses a text message with code to "verify" that some action (maybe a password change?) to your account is "legitimate".
Knowing that T-Mobile would send this message and that they would require the code to validate the change, the caller conned you into disclosing the code to them so that they could enter it into some online dialog with T-Mobile to seize control of your account.
They could then have full control of your account to put their own iPhone under your account, so that you would get charged for their phone usage.

Have you contacted T-Mobile? replies to Social Engineering account theft..
Make sure you contact T-Mobile's fraud department directly to get back control of your account and dispute the charges by the scammer as fraudulent.

tmobile does not care about there customers ( those paying for there service)
they will lie and hang up on you ( insert laugh by them).
they know nothing beyond there script ( sometimes thats all you get script repeated) many of these " team of experts" are outsourced philipines it seems.
    your basically talking to yourself.
there corp. office is n better more hang ups , excuses, non answers and repeated scripts.
they will block you from contacting them ( but you can write like they will magically know there job in writing).
more than obvious that they know nothing will happen to them.
complaints get ignored and proberly laughed at.
go with a more reliable provider
