    There is a process..
to dispute erroneous credit report information, through the credit reporting agency, where they notify the data furnisher (Driect TV or some collection agency).  They then have 30 days to respond, either correcting, removing, or "verifying as accurate".  If they don't respond, the CRA is supposed to remove it.  If they leave the error on your report, you can sue them, and a court can award actual and statutory damages, and your attorney fees, if you win.

    Go down all paths..
in parallel.  File your dispute online, if you want, but don't rely on that to protect your legal rights.  Send a dispute to the CRA, disputing the alleged "debt" as not yours, mailed certified, return receipt requested.  Also send a written dispute to Direct TV, if they are the ones reporting it, again mailed CRRR.  Include a copy of your credit report page (with unrelated accounts blacked out), indicating the erroneous entry.

If it doesn't disappear within the 30 day dispute period, contact an attorney with experience in FCRA litigation, as your potential losses just accumulate if you are trying to buy a home.  A letter from your attorney may get their attention, since your next step is to sue.
