button that locks machine door stopped working after 14 months

It would not spin because latch would not work on lid to indicate it was closed so no spin occurred ( guess it makes sense for a safety feature). I had to pay &0 for part and 79.00 service call only had machine a little over a year. The repair man said to write you since that part should not have broken.
