Whirlpool Duet Washer Tearing and Putting Holes in Clothing

We have had our Whirlpool washer /dryer duet set for about 5 years. We have had no mechanical problems with it EXCEPT since we bought them our clothes have been getting holes in them and rips and tears. I have tried everything, washing smaller loads washing jeans and stuff with zippers separate from the regular cotton clothing. No matter what I have tried the clothes are still coming out damaged. This has been ongoing since we bought them. I wash 4 peoples clothing(myself, my husband, and my 2 daughters) and we all have had our clothes damaged! I don't know what is going on and it is hard to pin point if the damages is happening in the washer or the dryer. I have also checked the barrels of both, looking for pointy objects or something broken that would cause the damage, but have never found anything! Its very frustrating folding my laundry and having our clothing damaged.
