telephone scam
Complaint
Irene
Country: United States
I called a nurses association to become a member when this people answered and after getting my information they started charging me 39.99 and 29.95 each month. No statement was ever issued just the withdrawals from my back every month with no other information but charges from DMMP and GC Promotions. I called my bank and they were able to contact each company in a 3-way call to cancel those "subscriptions". I should have done this earlier. I now know the bank is able to provide the telephone number of the companies charging.

What number did you call?
What number did your bank provide?
Note the reported use of a phone number similar to the insurance company the poster was trying to call, being fooled into thinking this was some offer related to that insurance company, and that charges started showing up for some "magazine subscription". Also note that the amounts of the unauthorized charges match yours.
Note the way in which the "service" is "disclosed" through some non-descript mailed disclosures that is timed to arrive AFTER the alleged "cancellation date". They're trying to create the appearance that the consumer "agreed, but didn't cancel in time" while making sure they couldn't have cancelled in time. In this case, it appears they've been passed account information from some partner, which is common with these scams.
Deception with "plausible deniability".
