Have received roughly 10 calls on my cell phone in the last two days.  When I answer the phone hangs up.  When I call back, and automated system says press one to leave a message and two for fax. I have even tried leaving a message requesting no more phone calls.

Looks like they just started using this number.  This person reports that it is a "federal grand" scam.  BBB reports them as running an "advance fee" loan or grant scam out of Canada.

It's a scam call. When they finally do speak, they try to tell you you've won a federal grant (usually around $4500), and have to pay them money for processing it ($359). They try hard to get your checking account number so they can withdraw the funds. They should be hung up by their heels, tarred and feathered, and left for the buzzards to peck at.

Here is the BBB warning on it:

Running Telemarketing "Guaranteed Loan" Scam Nationwide

This scam starts with a call from a number that is traced to Bellevue, WA. using the number: (425) 963-7342. There are reports at 800#

What does Caller ID say when you call this number?

    GOVERNMENT GRANTS GUARANTEED FOR $359.00

    BBB SCENARIO:

A consumer called reporting that she had entered her telephone number into a web site (she doesn't know the web address) while doing a search online for student/government grants.

Once she did this, a woman named Lisa Smith (ID #01572) at phone number (425) 963-7342 called stating that she was from American Standard Financial offering a grant for $4,500.00 if she would send them $359.00.

She obtained the customer's checking account number to take out this payment. She assigned her a customer number and referred her to a toll free number, which was: (866) 569-2573

That number answered American Standard Financial when she called them.  She did not go further with them at that time, and called the BBB to check them out.

    OUTCOME OF SCENARIO:

When the BBB places this company's 866# into its database, this comes up:

    American Standard Financial
    The Lake Salters Main Road
    Barbados, CND  bb19030

    Telephone: (866) 569-2573

This address is located in Nova Scotia and is being classified as a lottery scam, however, it seems that this group of scammers have moved into the realm of grant/loan advance fee loan scams-ville.

The customer instantly called her bank to discuss the situation. They had not taken funds out yet. Her bank agreed not to release the funds if they do try.

    BBB Advice:

*Be forewarned that this is a scam, trying to part you from your precious funds.

*It is illegal for any company to charge an upfront fee to receive a grant or loan without first securing the loan, and issuing the funds.

*If you have been a victim of this scam, please file formal complaints with your state Attorney General's Office ASAP----And if you have compromised your banking info or any account info with this group, CONTACT YOUR FINANCIAL INSTITUTION IMMEDIATELY TO REPORT IT, before they wipe you out of your funds."

Every time I get a call from this number they ask for my daughter.  If I ask who is calling, it is a "personal matter".  If I offer to take a message, they hang up.
