Someone has put a phone in my name with out my knowledge. I knew nothing about it till I received a collections notice. Iam not responesable for this and I would like this matter cleared up. I do have the # they was asinged and the approx lowcation where they was.

    This may be a fraudulently opened account with Verizon, or it may be their outsourced collection agency, AFNI, up to their old fraudulent collection tricks.

    Have you directly contacted Verizon, spoken to their fraud department, and verified that their own system actually shows an account opened with your information at some address you never lived at?

    If so, then file an id theft complaint with your local police, obtain a copy of the police report, and use that to dispute the fraudulent account with any debt collector or through the credit reporting agencies.

    If not, then you have a debt collector that has "tagged" you with someone else's account, and may be deceptively attempting to put barriers in the way of your disputing it, to coerce you into paying an unowed "debt".
