first off, the guy that called didnt inform my husband that he was calling from a collection agency then lied and told me that mailing in a payment was not allowed. i am a debt collector myself and know that by law, you are requried to inform the person you are calling that it is an attempt to collect a debt. so on and so forth, and that they can not say what the account is for until doing so. he told my husband what the account was for, then stated the mini miranda. so i called back and spoke with the supervisor, who couldnt tell me why his co-worker told me that mailing in a payment was not allowed, and if im right, which i believe i am, discussing the account before he stated the mini miranda is againts the law. something needs to be done about this company!*!*!*!*!

You're a debt collector.  You know the rules.  You aren't going to get any reliable information to determine what if anything is really owed, or to who it is owed, unless you only communicate by mail.  All you will get is made up lies, whatever they think will shake money out of you.

You would be a fool to give them an account or card number over the phone.

Send them a dispute and validation letter, mailed certified, and sue them if they violate.

It's the only thing they understand.
