Dispute the charges IN WRITING with BofA, mailed certified for proof of notification, and note in your dispute that the charges are unauthorized, and the date you notified BofA of that fact.

In addition, have BofA immediately close and block the account due to the continuing fraudulent or unauthorized charges.  That is the only way to prevent on-going additional charges.

You may have authorized one charge, but you did not authorize an ongoing stream of endless charges for the rest of your life.  Your authorization ends when you end it.

Just because you can't contact your friend does not mean that Citi can keep taking your money without YOUR authorization.  What your friend may have done to allow the original charge is irrelevant.  Nor does Citi having your account number mean they get to keep taking your money.  It also doesn't mean you owe them anything, assuming you never cosigned anything for your friend.

Block their access to your account by having BofA close it, and their attempts to charge will bounce back.  Your friend will have to take care of his own bills, and he may also get stuck with fees by Citi, but that is his problem.

If you have problems getting BofA to block and close the account, or in getting the unauthorized charges returned, be sure you have provided written notification by certified mail, and then file a complaint against BofA with the Office of the Comptroller of the Currency.

It also doesn't sound like BofA is giving you advice in your best interest, as they should have advised you to do the above when you first notified them.  In case you get into some dispute with them, or decide to sue them to recover your losses, you would be wise to open a checking account now with some other bank or credit union, as protection in case they trash your credit.
