I received same call asking to speak with "boss" to renew $599 listing.  They tried to record me but I told them I do not have authority.  They were very pushy and when I hung up, they called back a number of times but I've blocked their phone number.  Very sneaky and since she can not understand what the lady says it is difficult to know what is going on until they've already started to record you.  Then they get mad at you for refusing to complete recording.

This people try to get you to cancel a online add, which would be a way to admit you ordered something. I never ordered anything from online yellow pages. So I would not agree to cancel the service, because that would be recorded as a statement that I had ordered something. The renew they said is $599.00 for 2 years. They would not give a phone number of someone to call to complain, so I hung up on them.

It does no good to complain to them anyway.

      Complain to FTC, instead.

They will record you answering 'yes' and 'no' to benign questions, then doctor the recording to show how you agreed to the charges. When they played it back for me, it was painfully obvious that this was a patchwork job, and I didn't hesitate to let the representative know. I spoke with the FTC and registered a complaint. The agent was very amused at the idea that they 'will pursue legal action,' as they could never legitimately do so, and that they are doing what they can to stop these people. It's all a scare tactic. Ignore them, and completely, save for registering your concerns with the FTC, the BBB and your State's Attorney General Office.

If you get a fraudulent invoice in the mail, file a mail fraud complaint with the US Postal Inspector.

I just received a call from Yellowpages.com to renew "our contract" with them.  The guy who called had a very heavy Indian accent and told our receptionist his name was Brad Watson, and he spelled it out for her, so she knows that is correct, and he told he his name is Dave Watson and he spelled it for me.  He asked our receptionist to talked to a quality control agent and just say "Yes" to all their questions no matter what their questions are.  She talked to quality control and wouldn't say Yes, so then Brad (Dave) Watson called back angry because she didn't say yes.  He called a little later again and I talked to him, Dave (Brad) Watson, and he gave me the same line.  He said he would answer all my questions and when I talked to Quality Control, I had to just say "Yes" to what they asked me.

I asked him to fax me a copy of our original agreement that they say we signed before I would talked with Quality Control, but he said he would not do that.  He said he would mail it all to me when I got the "Cancellation Number" which I could only get by saying "Yes" to all the quality control questions.  He insisted that I could say "Yes" to accepting the $599 invoice but I don't have to pay that.  I said I would talk to Quality Control.  They asked me if I wanted to cancel our Yellowpages contract.  I said Yes.  Then they asked me if I was authorized to accept a $599 invoice.  I told Quality Control that the guy I talked to said that I was supposed to say Yes but I didn't have to pay it.  He asked me if that was exactly what he said.  I said, that is exactly what he said.  Then Quality Control said, just a minute, and the phone went dead.  Dave/Brad called back saying that he ended my phone call with Quality Control because I didn't say Yes to all their questions.  I ended up hanging up on him.  He has not called back so far.

I am not sure if the Quality Control people are in the same room with this Brad/Dave guy or if Quality Control is actually a legitimate service who is being scammed by Brad/Dave as well.

I agree that there is no way to argue with the guy who originally calls you.  I don't believe that he is actually in this country.  I believe he is probably in India.  If you call the phone number back that he calls you from, it is a recording that says that the person who called you from this number is a sales person who is trying to get you to purchase something.

Brad/Dave gave me a "Customer Care" number that I called 888-420-9231, which is also a bogus number that just asks you to enter a pin number.  The number that Brad/Dave Watson called me from was 325-718-4640 and the Caller ID said it was from Ballinger, TX.

Our church got this same sort of call wanting to know if we wanted to "renew last year's contract". I told the man neither the treasurer nor the rector were available, and I was just a Sunday School teacher. He kept hammering at me about whether or not I had the authority to approve this. I finally asked him if he was a Christian. (He had a heavy Indian accent.)

"What does that have to do with this matter, madam?"

"Well, if you are, you know *exactly* how much authority a Sunday School teacher has." And hung up on him.

This just happened to me at the office. The caller ID said "Private". She said she was with the Yellow Pages and wanted to renew our account. I told her we didn't have an account.   She said my boss made a verbal  agreement 2 years ago. (Verbal? Ha, we're a construction company...NOTHING is verbal).   She said that they "gave us" the first 12 months free and they would be billing us for the 2nd 12 months.  I told her that we would not be paying anything to Yellow Pages or to AT&T for any advertising, and that's when she told me they were not affiliated with AT&T, that they were the Yellow Pages Website Search.  She said she would turn it over to her corporate office.  I told her good-bye.
