Bought 3000 series Washer/Dryer combo on black friday 2009. It was on back order for 6months so HD upgraded me to the Crimson Red color, because the red machines were not as backed ordered. The machines arrived around the first week of March 2010; purchased the pedestals too.
Machine worked fine no series problems until a year later started having loud noises. Laundry is done about 4-5times a week. Maytag/Whirlpool requested to buy the extended warranty. I did, and a repair man came out and said it was normal and no real damage. Up until the end of January 2013 the basket stopped turning, water was leaking out the bottom of the machine into the pedestal drawer. Called Maytag/whirlpool, had a repair man come out. The repairman said the basket has broken off. He calculated the cost of repairs and came out to be $992 in parts, and $300 in labor. He told me Whirlpool would have to approve the repair first. Waited a few days, and he called back explaining Whirlpool will be sending me a check. He couldn't tell me how much.
I called Whirlpool and they told me that they will be sending a $530 check, and was astonished. I said the machine was less that 3years, and paid more than $1200 for the washer alone. Whirlpool said my model is obsolete so they compared it to a similar model. So they took 75% of the current value of that model and came up with $530. I was not satisfied. I stayed on the phone with them for 2hours transferred to and talking with different reps. I told them i will not take a check i want a replacement or repair. So now they agreed to replace me with a MHW6000XG, i haven't found any reviews for mechanical problems with this machine. The real disappointment is i'll still have a red dryer.
