Wrong number for about 6 years

Can't say with certainly that it's always been CBE calling.  Starting in about 2006, I began getting calls for someone named Eve.  I live alone and don't have any family with that name, so I knew it was a wrong number.  I told the caller as much and they said my number was being removed and hung up. A few days later, same thing, caller assures me my number is removed from their system. But the calls didn't stop. If I didn't answer, sometimes the caller would leave a message like "Eve?, Eve?." Sometimes the message was somebody with British accent on an automated hold system.

Once, I thought I put an end to their calls by repeatedly *69 call back, trying to get the name and address of the company from the caller, until the person finally got sick of my call backs and put me through to a manager. I gave him my name, address and phone number. He was very nice, very apologetic, and assured me that my number would be removed from their system. And for about 6 months, maybe a year, I didn't get anymore calls for "Eve."

The calls began again early this spring. Now they are able to bypass my anonymous call rejection and call every day, 7 days a week, sometimes twice a day. Most calls are "No Caller ID," some are 319-242-7343, or 515-954-7688. If they leave voicemail, its the same British accent asking for "Eve (Can't understand last name)" or the same "Eve? Eve?" message as the last bout of phone harassment.

I filed an FTC complaint several months ago.  I continue to update that complaint with new info.  My voicemail messages are automatically converted to email messages and saved.  I've kept those per FTC advice.  I was also advised to write a letter to the company's main address.  I'm reticent about doing that.  If these folks are so poorly organized that they continue to waste time calling the wrong number for 6 years, I don't feel comfortable blindly sending them my name and address and phone number in a letter.

In short, I've tried everything I know to stop these calls. I rarely ever pick up now, partly because I don't get to it in time.  I suffer from a degenerative illness that makes walking very difficult, it's also caused impaired hearing and vision. Talking to the callers is no use, they only say they are removing my number.  Obviously they never follow through. Apparently, our government has no teeth, and I am too poor to hire a lawyer. So I've decided to stop using my landline. Maybe CBE will give up in time.

Sent them a letter, mailed certified, notifying them that they are calling your number (nnn-nnn-nnnn)  to reach "Eve??", who you don't know and who cannot be reached at your number, that you have notified them numerous times to stop calling you, that you have filed FTC complaints against them.
Tell them to cease calling your number.

Continued harassing calls, after you have told them to cease, is a violation of FDCPA and TCPA.  Both allow you to sue, and both allow courts to award damages and attorney fees if you win.  After confirming delivery of your notice through the USPS website, if you receive further calls, get an attorney.  There are attorneys who take these cases on contingency, for the court awarded fees.  You can find a consumer attorney in your state through www.naca.net
