Portfolio Recovery Associates is a debt collector as defined by FDCPA.

FDCPA requires debt collectors to send a letter within 5 days of first contact notifying alleged debtors of the alleged amount owed and who it is owed to, and that consumers can dispute the debt or request that the debt collector obtain and send verification of the debt.

If you have any questions regarding an alleged debt demanded by a debt collector, you may best protect your rights by sending a letter, mailed certified, to the debt collector disputing the debt and demanding that they obtain and send proof that you owe it.

To best protect your rights, you should send this letter within 30 days of receiving their first letter, however, failure to send a dispute letter does not mean you owe the alleged debt, and no court may take any failure to dispute as an admission that you owe it.  (If it were otherwise, then debt collectors would just contrive to "send" you letters that somehow would never arrive.)

Similarly, if you are receiving harassing or abusive calls, either directed at you, or claiming to be calling someone else, you should send a letter, mailed certified, demanding that they cease making harassing calls to you.

Regardless of what any debt collector may tell you, calling the debt collector on the phone, or contacting them through their website, is not an effective means to protect your FDCPA rights.

Mailing such letters certified is more effective than calling or contacting via a website, which would leave you with little proof of the details of your contact should you have to sue.

I don't owe anything to anyone!!!! If you send to me the name of the alleged party that I owe and if this that info isn't fraudulent I will pay it off. If it isn't a debt that I occurred and that was not me and it was someone that stole in my ID again, you will get more trouble than you can handle!!!! Life Alert, Consumer Protection Agency, and 21st Century Insurance has been notified by myself and they advised me that since this claim by you is bogus, I should disregard your stupid bogus request and wait for more inquiries by your company so that that can seek action against you!!! Phouc off and get your info correct!!... before sending out [***] fraudulent statements. P.S. I haven't taken out credit or bought anything that hasn't been paid back since before my disability in 1999!! You are being investigated and more is to come! Stolen ID is a serious topic! If you still feel that you have a case then send me the info as to who I owe so that party[s] can investigate! No info will be given out or verified from my side! If you want a chance to collect this, and if this is something I occurred, I will pay it off completely with a money order!...if it isn't me ..,., back off and cease all activity in contacting me! I have sent a copy of this to 21st Century Identity Theft Depy, Life Alert, Consumer Protection Agency, and your State's Attorney General!

IN DEBT IN ORANGE COUNTY CA. -
Look here Mr."Collection Man" from Cavalry Portfolio Service, LLC and or assignee of the MAN. Your line of work is shameful. Do your mothers know what you do for a living?  When you gather around at family reunions do your moms say "here is my boy, he's a collector" or here my little girl, look how far she's come since reform school".  You guys are just plain wrong to do what you do. You inflate the debt that is actually owed by people like me then make a profit from your bogus fees. That is just so wrong. Just remember AKUN-AMATTATA all you mother lovers, what goes around comes around. Put your G.E.D's to better use, go do something constructive and get a better job, one you don't have to be ashamed of. As for what you say I owe you, PROVE IT!
