Gas Range Grate Failure
Complaint
Patrick D. McAvoy
Country: United States
Model: KGSI901PWH 30" White Slide-in gas range
We acquired this stove in March 2005. Within a few days of installation, the stove grates have failed. The grate's burner ring cracks, splits and breaks off at the support. Over time, the white stove top becomes scorched and pitted due to heated metal dripping from the grate rings.
The company has replaced the grates no less than 12 times, and has replaced the stove top twice.
We are only cooking for a household of two people - my wife and myself - for usually one or two small meals a day. This is very low overall use of the stove.
The current grates, replaced 6-months ago, have failed again. Kitchen Aid is now offering to (1) buy back the stove from us at the current market value, or (2) send us another set of grates.
We feel that Kitchen Aid should fully replace the unit with one of comparable value, since this is obviously a manufacturing defect in the construction of the grates.
We are both on fixed disability income and cannot afford to absorb the cost of acquiring another stove. We feel it is unfair to require us to pay for this apparent product defect.
I would appreciate any recommendation that you might have in helping us receive satisfaction on this issue.
Thank you.
