For anybody signing up for a Best buy credit card, BE AWARE you are also signing up for HABC's "Account protection plan". They charge you a certain amount per month and if you don’t notice it before 60 days you can’t get your money back. If this was something I wanted or was aware about, why would they only give me 60 days to cancel it?????

I bought an entertainment system before moving into my new home and signed up for the Best buy credit card because I was told I would have 3 years to pay off $3,200.00. After a busy summer of moving in, I came to notice on my 3rd statement just yesterday I was being charged for something called "Debt Cancellation". I called Best buys Customer service number, after arguing with 3 or 4 people that did not speak good English and were no help at ALL they referred me to "HSBC INSURANCE SERVICES" they told me that this was the company that was charging me for the UNWANTED service, Best buy then told me that this company could only be reached through the mail and they had no phone number I could call to talk to somebody...LIES!!

I found the number for this company online in a matter of about 30 seconds, I called this morning and these people were even less help, they claim I have to send them a letter in writing to cancel this SCAM of a service that I never wanted in the first place, Oh and also that I will not receive any refund for the $80 they charged me for some Bogus service to which I have no clue what its even for!!

I called the store and spoke to the Manager to inform him of my displeasure that I was not informed that by signing up for his company’s card I would be signing up for this account protection plan as well. Of course there is nothing he can do for me!!   Once again a company in America gets away with Theft!!

SCAM....SCAM....SCAM!!  DONT SHOP AT BEST BUY!!

Boy am I late to the game. It's been ten years and I'm just finding out about this debt protection scam. I finally noticed it on my statements (hidden between the taxes in small print). No wonder my balance was slowly lowering!

Can anybody direct me on who to talk to about this? Citibank is refusing to give me any refund as they deny responsibility in the sign up process. Best Buy can only offer the dumb answer "We don't offer debt protection anymore."

I feel absolutely scammed. After requesting where I signed up fo Shield Protection, I received a document that I have never seen. My alleged signature agreed to debt protection. However I've never seen those terms and conditions or even heard of debt protection. The date next to my signature is my birthday. I have every document I received when I signed up for the Best Buy card including original receipt but never received a copy of the terms for debt protection.

    Any help???

I too have been scammed and just noticed it.  They call it Enhanced Debt Protection on my bill.  I also called this morning and I cancelled my card for Best Buy.  There is a charge of over twenty five dollars listed as a fee.  So they have been doing this to me for many years as well.  I have never been late on a payment and have paid a little extra each time I made my monthly payment.  I will not pay my bill on due date this time either but will call back and ask for a hardship arrangement with a better interest rate and lower monthly payment.  At least what ever I pay from now on will be going towards what  I owe and not a scam where they were fraudulently scamming money off me each month.  They need to be sued.  I never opted for any such plan... EVER.  Please let us know how this turned out for you.

I JUST noticed this charge today (the danger of Auto-Pay, I never look at my statements..that changes now.), and called the DEBT PROT 1-800-365-6256 number on my statement. Took about 15 minutes to do. We'll see if it is actually removed when my next statement posts.

-Select Option #2 - Questions Regarding Statement/CC Account
        -Enter ** for Touchtone system
        -Last 4 SS/Acct #
        -Select Option 3 - Dispute Charges/Billing
-When you get to an operator, Say "I want to speak with someone to cancel the Debt Protection charges on my statement"
-You should be transferred to a different operator who will help you cancel your enrollment in this.

Did anyone get their money back? I too am late to the game. I just realized these charges were on my statement and apparently have been since 2006. I called in to cancel and just got a letter that it's cancelled, but my money will not be refunded. Help!
