AS IS policy stinks!

I think that Ashley Furniture's "As Is" policy is unfair to consumers. If you purchase anything off their showroom floor ( i.e. lamp, rug, decoration), you may not return it under any circumstances. I attempted to return a rug and two lamps that still had the Ashley Furniture price tags on them and they would not accept them as a return.

I spent over $700 for these items. My plans changed and I do not need them anymore. They have never been used. I wanted them to deliver the items instead of buying them off the floor, but that was not an option. I can't understand why they will accept something that has been delivered to the consumer as a return; but not something that the consumer purchases off of the showroom floor.

I sent an email to mjedlowskicustomercare@ashleyfurniture.com and received a trite response from Shannon Burris as follows:

"Thank you for your correspondence. We regret that you disagree with the nature of our AS IS policy. Unfortunately, accessories or other as-is items cannot be warrantied, serviced or returned. We are sorry to have lost your business."

It does not look like Ashley Furniture cares about their customer, nor do they care if their customer ever returns!!

Buyer Beware!

They sell merchandise in their stores that they don't stock in their warehouse, specifically decorations and lamps. This is much like going to a retail store and buying off the shelf. If you are interested in a specific lamp or decoration, the only way you can purchase is buying it off the "shelf".  The items are brand new, never been used.  They are not damaged.  It is similar to a consumer buying something off the shelf from any other retailer (i.e. Target, Macy's, Nordstrom), except they can return the item at these stores.

I am not saying that I don't understand what "As Is" means...I am saying that Ashley Furniture's "As Is" Policy is unfair.  In my case, they did not tell me the items were "As Is" and the salesperson glossed over this fact when I was signing the sales slip.

    really?
what is your interpretation of "as is"?
the company marks down a product, sometimes below cost to move it and replace it w/ something new! its a final sale , no refunds , no returns , no exchanges , no more price reductions,  "AS IS"  it seems pretty clear
who cares if they have the tag on them....for all Ashley knows you bought the pieces had a company over to impress them w/ your fine home furnishings and then went to return them after your soiree.
and your last line is correct buyer beware

call it what it really is.....stealing!
Why do people think they are entitled to use "things" for free by buying for the time they need them and then returning to get their money back? Doing so is a crime just as bad as stealing and should be punishable by law. period.

You spent $700 and then your plans just changed? Smells like a rat to me. I've worked retail and it is sickening how people take advantage of store's return policies to steal. People like you are the reason retail prices are so high- ever think of that while you're sitting there attempting to damage the reputation of a retail store writing a stupid complaint on the internet.

In my opinion, most complaints written on the internet are invalid, bogus lies written by people who are trying to get something for nothing.

I don't blame the retailer for not caring if they lost your business- people like you cost retailers lots of money and THEY ARE BETTER OFF IF YOU STAY AWAY.

You are exactly right...Beware of the "BUYER". Funny how the consumer doesn't understand "As-is" once they change their minds..

I think these are sales rep's that dont like getting there commision returned, integrity would be to make sure the customer knows there is no return policy, that is the basic rule do unto others, Ashley really has a poor policy and word must get out that they dont care after the sale, no co. can survive bad PR, trust me keep telling people your story that ashley never stamped, no sign etc.

I have to agree their as-is/no return policy is horrible. I purchased a bunch of items, one of which was a sectional sofa. Upon delivery yesterday, the sofa would not fit down the basement stairs, so it was returned. I contacted Ashley about the issue and they said I could come in and pick another item. I told them I had looked online and the sofas I liked had the same, or bigger, dimensions than the one I purchased. So, I asked, nicely, for a refund. I was told the item was sold as-is. I asked for a price for the item, so I could raise the issue to the attention of American Express, and I was told there was no price on specific items. I ordered a dinning room set with six chairs, a buffet, a bedroom set and the couch. My order was well over $5,000. I'm simply asking to be refunded for the cost of the sectional, and they're telling me they don't know the price of it. I asked how it is that I could come in and pick a replacement item without them knowing the value of what I had purchased. They said they would look for the price and call me back in a few minutes. an hour and forty-five minutes pass and I call back for the price of the sofa, they said the store manager is out today, but he would call me tomorrow with the price. I called their Consumer Affairs Department and explained I was unable to get a price on an item I purchased. After some wait time, A gentleman told me a representative from the store would contact me with the price of the item within 10 minutes. Here I sit, almost an hour later, with no price. Regardless of whether or not American Express can assist me, the customer service, or lack thereof, from Ashley Furniture has been far less than horrible. At a minimum, I want American Express to know about the hassle and inform their customers. I'm very disappointed in AF. I like their products. I like their sales associates I've dealt with in the past. I've spent well over $7,000 there in the past few months. One would think they would want to keep repeat business. At this point, I have nothing good to say about them.

    UPDATE on my issue:

So, after a two page letter to Ashley Furniture, I was contacted by a very friendly lady this morning informing me I would receive a full refund without any restocking fee. Kudos to Ashely Furniture for resolving the matter, but shame on them for having it go this far.

    Buyer beware

I got a sectional and it has broken armrest and Ashley would not return it. They said they would send someone out. So the guy shows up and said he could fix it. He ordered the parts he needed to repair keep in mind this is a new item not an as-is sale. I feel they should have just exchanged it .  I just got a call from Ashley and said they would have someone out in 32 days. Does anyone think I can just get my money back? It's been a little over a month. I bought them for 5590 and put half down and half on Ashley card. Please advise . I saw some Costco ones that were half the price and were great not to mention their great return policy.

Call Ashley and demand them to come and get that broken crap out of your house!! Also demand a FULL refund, they wouldn't except half of a payment and you don't deserve something you brought brand new to get fix. I brought a brand new car and the next day a dash board light came on they said they will fix it I said H*** no I want one shipped to my house on a flat bed with ZERO miles.. I demand customer service!!

Ok, so you think if someone delivers you something in new condition and you break it, you should get another one? If the arm was broken upon delivery, you refuse the item. If it breaks after you have it then (if not abused) warranty will repair it. If you buy a car and are driving it and have an accident and break something, do you think you deserve a new car? Entitled are we? And good luck finding that "Zero miles" auto...

This company is a rip off. We bought a new sectional about 6wks ago.The cushions are already sagging! Me and my husband are experiencing excruciating lowerback/tailbone pain since owning sectional from crappy cushions. We both work full time so it's not like we sit on this couch 24/7. Very disappointing that they will not even exchange this couch for something else in their crappy store. Was not even asking for refund.Should of been made aware that they don't return items after two days because that means a store does not stand behind their products. I would of just shopped at big Lots or walmart if I wanted crappy furniture but then again they would let me return it.There is so many bad reviews online for this type of reason. They only people backing ashley furniture  are the ones that work there.Any good store needs to back there merchandise.Ashley furniture does not want repeat customers obviously.
