I purchased a country living magazine through my nephews school as a fundraiser.  Sunrise credit services, Inc. says that I owe $10.00.  Thia is incorrect and I WILL NOT pay this company.  When I purchased this magazine, I paid for the subscription, in FULL.

Sunrise Credit Services sent me a letter stating that I owed $10.00 for a country living magazine.  I do not owe this bill and have no intentions of paying this, because this was a subscription that I had bought through my nephews school as part of a fundraiser.

Sunrise Credit engages in deceptive marketing and billing on behalf of Hearst Publications, publisher of a number of consumer magazines, including Good Housekeeping, Country Living, etc.  They straddle the line between "debt collector" and "magazine subscription marketer".  They show up in many consumer complaints in connection with attempts to "recover" subscriptions cancelled by consumers, cram renewals through veiled threats the account is in collection, or convert "free trial" offers into full subscriptions.

Contact the publisher directly to find out what happened to your payment.  In addition, send a dispute letter to Sunrise, mailed certified, disputing the alleged "debt" and demanding proof, in order to preserve your FDCPA rights.

If the publisher does not credit your subscription as paid, it may be simpler to cancel and stop payment or dispute a credit card payment.

In the future, do not buy products for charitable intentions.  The offers are often associated with shady marketing operations.  For the same reasons, you should only buy magazines directly through the publisher, regardless of tempting offers.
