LA Fitness poor customer service and obsolete practices

To whom it may concern,

I have been a member of LA Fitness for approximately a couple of years. I encountered an inconvenience this morning as I was using the exercise room to perform my routine. The cleaning gentleman insists that he will do the major cleaning at 5 am when I am there on Mondays, Wednesdays, and Fridays. I submitted a complaint to the front desk assistant mgr. Jessica, but some managers at LA Fitness are a joke. I have been experiencing this issue for months, along with a few of my friends as we work together in this room, but I did not want to make an issue out of this until this morning. This gentleman literally sweeps a few inches away from our feet. This interaction is totally unacceptable and inappropriate. The cleaning person has no boundaries of space nor consideration whenever there are members in the exercise room, he either starts vacuuming or mopping the floor with intense chemical smells and leaves the floor wet as people are still in the room (This is a safety issue). I approached him this morning and he challenged me to file a complaint without taking into consideration the customer service piece. He is unable to understand that the gym is open for use to members at 5 a.m. My husband, some of my friends and I are thinking about terminating our memberships, since there was no regards shown towards the members at any point. Cleaning should be a priority, but it should not interfere with the member's workout activity or bring a safety and health issue to them. If you are unable to assist us with my complaint, then let us know the person to do so.

    I am cheated very badly by LAFitness. I asked only 2 questions when asked for training whether I can degrade my training classes and when I can cancel my training membership. I was told by Shawn (LAFitness Parsipanny) Fitness Manager that I can reduce my classes anytime I want and then I can cancel it after 6 months. I was busy negotiating on the price and once the price was fine I was rushed into signing the agreement and since I had my only 2 questions answered I trusted by signing without reading the complete agreement. After 5 months I applied to reduce my classes from 16 to 8 per month and it is languishing in some VP office for some approval. I tried to reach a zillion times Shawn and he never gives time. Atlast I got time last Thursday when he changed his word that I cant cancel even after 6 months but he said that he only told I can reduce my classes after 6 months at the time of my joining. He gave me corporate phone number and asked me to get it done from them. When I called them they are denying to either cancel my training membership or reduce it to the no.of classes I require. I already have a backlog of 39 classes after 6 months. The attitude of the people who answer the phone and the front desk people when entering gym and other people in the administration in LAFitmess Parsipanny are very very rude. I was lured into signing the contract on a false promise. Since I trusted their I overlooked and now they are asking me to pay a huge for reducing the classes or canceling the training membership. I need legal advice and help. I am not sure where to go yet.

    We were planning to join our local club in Plano, TX, but the manager there is very rude and gave us the an attitude when we said we would like to think about it.
    And also he was very rude when we asked him if we could give one day pass to try the service they offer. He said " we don't offer anything for free" and that if we wanted a pass we would have to commit to sign the agreement first. Then he also asked us to compare the price for 15 clubs and let him know what is the price of the others. This is just borderline offensive. We will never ever join this club.

    This is very bad customer service. Also he was all the time pushing us to sign agreement the very same day.

    The 4S Ranch location also has some poor issues.  The locker room and exercise room are always in a state of disrepair (leaky faucets/ missing shower heads  - for months because"members stole the shower heads" or "it's hard to keep a mirror clean and the floor swept".  Yes, these are quotes from the manager as to why the site is not kept up.  In the sauna there was a screw sticking out from a bench!  The floors are wet and slippery.  The class teachers are good.  Equipment is newly updated and also fine.  Management is not experienced or such here.  Too bad.

    La Fitness now has areas of the gym roped off for personal trainers only.  Mgmt will immediately ask you to leave the area if you're in there.  So basically, LA Fitness has unilaterally reduced members use of the facility without compensating for the reduction.  What's to stop them from roping off half the weight room next time?  This is an unacceptable limitation on our memberships and I encourage everyone to challenge LA Fitness by refusing to leave the off limits area.
