I would highly recommend that travelers avoid renting cars from Alamo. I have had a recent incident with them where they have accused me of loosing or stealing a GPS unit that they charged me $300.00 for. Their position is that because I did not return it to the counter and when they checked the car two days later, it wasn't there, then I must be charged for its loss or theft. I told them that their policy is unfair and invites abuse from their own employees who could just take the GPS with them since the customer will be charged for it if it is not found. Worse, it may be there as I left it but since it is not handed to them at the counter, they can just keep the GPS and charge the customer the $300.00. This is clearly unfair, a ripoff and highly unamerican.

Please boycott this company until it changes its practices that do not invite such consumer abuses.

I had a similar experience at Logan International Airport in Boston, MA on 6/27/2011. however, the employee that checked in my car was in the driver seat before I had my luggae out of the trunk and my personal carry-on off the passenger seat. I called the State Troopers assigned to that jurisdiction and filled a theft report. I had used the phone on the way to the airport for directions so I am sure of the time and location it disappeared. The Manager informed me that this was a current issue and that laptops and several other iPhones (including his personal iPhone) had been had been stolen out of cars! I submitted an email inquiry with Corporate and have heard nothing from them. My company is 18,000 employees strong and this is their preferred agency. They are currently looking into a higher level complaint wont hold my breath

Do not use Alamo/Europcar from CDG in France.  I was 7th in line for 1 1/2 hours just to get my car.  If I had not prepaid I would have gone to any other car rental company.  The service was the worst and when I called customer service when I got home they wouldn't help me and told me to call France.  Not worth it.

Rented a car with Alamo in Orlando in October 2014. Received a letter in the mail 4 months later saying I have an outstanding balance of $240 for a missing GPS. The GPS was even plugged in when I returned the car because I had used it to get directions to the airport. Currently trying to get this issue solved with Alamo. I got somewhat lucky that my bank is awesome and when I contact them about an unauthorized charge from Alamo they immediately cancelled my card, issued me a new one and dropped that charge from my statement. But now that Alamo can't charge the card the had on file they are sending me a letter - to charge me for a GPS I neither lost or stole. Just from quickly searching on google it appears that this is a pretty common problem with Alamo. It seems to me that Alamo needs to review its policy and investigate its employees. Not fair that consumers have to pay the price.
