Hiding Manager

My husband  and myself were in the store between 5:30-6:00 on Sunday Jun 19, 2016. Being Father's Day they were very busy their was a customer who was very upset and very rude to the girl behind the counter she was trying to calm him down.  He started to say rude things to her and using very bad language and there was children in the store.  My husband said something to me and the guy turned and started to argue with my husband.  Then the guy started yelling he wanted the manager.  I was very upset that the manager hid in the back and did not come out to help the girl behind the counter and also did not come out when he started yelling at the customers.  I thought as a manager you are supposed to keep your employee safe and your customers.  Hiding in the back and letting your employee being subject to that is not right and I think it should be addressed.
