Verizon received payment on Jan 10, 2013 but applied the payment to the wrong account. On Jan 25, 2013 they sent a letter to the address on file which was my address. I received the letter on Feb 11. I am living overseas so it took a long time for The letter to get to me.
The letter stated they received the money but could not rind a valid account. I had canceled the account and was make the final payment. The was no phone number on the letter so I called Verizon to try and get the phone number for their accounts receivable department. Have you ever tried to call Verizon without a valid cell phone account? You cannot get through to a person. Finally I called sales to as if I was going to buy a new phone. After a few calls I talked to a person who look up the number.
By this time Feb 11, Verizon turned over the account to their recovery department and a collection agency.
Now it is Feb 23. I wrote them a letter with a copy of my bank statement showing the payment on Feb 12. On Feb 19 my bank faxed them confirm of payment to Verizon. I called on Feb 22. Verizon had still not received the letter or the fax. They asked me to fax again to a different fax number. I called my bank yesterday Feb 22 to fax the proof of payment again. Verizon tells me it takes to days for them to receive and process a fax and 7 - 10 days to process a letter.
In the meantime their collection agency to calls me daily. I have talked to Verizon and the collection agency every day this week. Verizon has the payment, they have had the money since Jan 10. They cannot find the payment. They have received 2 faxes from my bank, USAA, and one letter from me. AND still cannot find the payment my back sent them electronically on JAN 10.
