Double charge no refund

I prepaid a car hire with Alamo US, using a UK broker rentalcars.com. Alamo apparently didn't register the prepayment and double charged me.. I received written (email) promises from carrentals.com, saying they would repay me the double charge directly once I’d sent them the Alamo receipts, they reneged, effectively passing the buck for me to fight with Alamo.
Carrentals.com reneged on a written promise, and Alamo were horrible to deal with, so as yet I am still out $800. Avoid both companies!
