SCAM -- Trying to take money from people
Complaint
Lee Baker
Country: United States
I received a call from "Mr. Anderson" (Matrix anyone) supposedly located in Gillburg, South Carolina (area code is 803 there) from phone number 1-876-471-3971 (number is from the country of Jamaica). RED FLAG When I questioned him about his phone number NOT being a number from South Carolina he told me it was a "roaming" phone. Then I questioned him about the phone number being from outside of the country, WHY would a US based company use a phone number that is based OUTSIDE of the US and he told me it was because they give out prizes internationally. (NOT TRUE). RED FLAG He told me I would receive an email will all the details and forms I needed to be filled out in order to receive the prize money and NEW car. I'm STILL waiting for this email. I asked for the email address so I could find it and he told me it was publishingclearancehouse@gmail.com. An actual Publisher's Clearance House emails ends in @pch.com NOT @gmail.com. RED FLAG This has SCAM written all over it. He also said I would need TWO money orders (at first he said Amazon Gift Cards) for $499 each with NO information on them. When I questioned WHY 2 were needed and why $499, he explained that a Dave Sayer (the attorney) already took care of all the fees because my package was held over 30 days (previously he had said 60 days) due to COVID restrictions. The "winnings" ($$ and car) would be reported to the IRS and another federal agency (this was part of the $499 fee). RED FLAG Please do NOT fall for this SCAM. I kept him on the phone as long a I could (all 3 times between 20 mins - 40 mins) asking dumb questions saying I was confused and didn't understand something. To his credit, he was very patient and kept reassuring me that I would be happy with the results. I LOVE to waste their time as much a possible so at least they can't SCAM someone else out of their money while they are talking to me.
