Opened Credit Cards without my permission

I made some purchases from the Macy's store in January this year. They had some promotion going, and offered me to become a member to get a discount on my whole purchase. I said I don't want to open a card with them, to which they replied that it's not necessary. I paid for the items with my credit card and left. After three months I got contacted by their collector department that was demanding a payment. Only after minutes into the conversation I realized that he wanted me to pay the amount I already paid again plus a late fee. From his words I opened TWO cards with Macy's and one card has a balance on it I did not pay.

I have been fighting ever since, they had illegally opened the credit cards without my permission and harassing me every day for not paying and threated me for reporting it to credit agency. I have disputed it several time and asked them to show me the proof or signed copy of my receipts
that i have asked to open them the cards and paid it using the store card. But ever after 5 months I have no reply from them.

It happened to me, too.   The worse part was that I only received a bill
for the Visa Card which I paid.  Today I received a past due notice for
a $19.99 purchase I had made with my Visa card in July. When I called to complain, I was told that when I used my Macys Visa card in THEIR store it goes onto a seperate account with a different number!!!  I told the girl
I spoke to (and who didn't speak very good English) that I never received
a bill for this "mystery" account.  She apologized and removed $32.00 in
late charges and interest.  I told her my biggest concern was that this
might show on my credit report.  Since I never asked for this seperate
account AND never got a bill until today I don't think it should show on
my credit report.  If it does, I do intend to contact the Better Business Bureau and if necessary my lawyer.

    Macy's - Never AGAIN!

Wow! They really do have a scam going on. I see I'm not the only one this happened to.
This recently happened to me on 6/3/11.
Misleading, deceitful, lying SOB salesperson went ahead and applied me for a second Macy's credit card - WITHOUT MY AUTHORIZATION OR CONSENT, after I told him numerous times that I already had a charge card with Macy's but it was not on me during the time of my recent purchase.
He claimed that he would look up my account in the system and that all he would need is my driver's license. I gave him my driver's license and then he asked for me to punch in my social security number to verify my ID.
After doing what I thought was necessary I realized the lying SOB had fooled me and applied me for another credit card. I caught him and he kept on denying it until I just got the letter from EXPERIAN. UNBELIEVABLE!!!!
Of course they denied my so called "application" and inquiry because I already have a MACY'S charge account (NOT FOR LONG) with an existing balance. I will never purchase anything again from these scam artists.
The salesperson was obviously trying to make his commission by how many people he could con into opening new charge accounts. Well, I hope it was worth it because they lost my business. Bunch of idiots. Don't they realize word of mouth gets around and bad reputation can ruin a business?
    Should file a lawsuit.

wish it wasnt to late but if you knew anything you need more than just a social to open a macy's card. so I doubt that's what they did.. he simply looked up your account. I work at macy's and to open an account you need i.d debit or credit card annual income social date of birth rent or own and much more. but nice try!!!

How do you know what the associate entered into the customers data fields? You don't know. Good try for supporting the lying, deceitful, demonic, dark energy surrounding Macys'.  You loose looser.

I had this IDENTICAL routine run on me.

There is even a forum with a Macy's rep defending this b.s. I told them that the bottom line is that their results are unhappy customers. Period. In sales the customer is always right. It's called customer service so when the customer experience is a feeling of disservice then something is wrong. When the customer ends up feeling like they have to be on guard around sales people who used to be look after them then Macy's has failed.

The biggest profit margin now is in extending credit. People need to know first and foremost that Macy's wants to get you into another credit, and then into a pair of shoes. They are total scum and have lost our business forever.

Watch out at Ann Taylor - SAME THING!!!
I was at Ann Taylor last week and the lady kept trying to get me to sign up for a credit card.  I told her that I absolutely did not want a credit card.  Then, she said I could just get an Ann Taylor card so that I could be a preferred customer and get points.  She made it sound like a preferred customer card, and that was it.  I did agree to that.  It wasn't until I received this card in the mail that I realized that it was a credit card.  Total scam!

The second card u refer to is one card. A toered account. Macy visa or macys amex. It has two numbers because when used in store it goes on the macys side iutsode store purchases go on the visa or amex side.  So u receive macys statement snd visa or amex. It still one card with more options...

I was at Macys a couple of weeks ago and the sales lady asked me a few times if I'd like to open an account to get the additional 15% off.  I declined SEVERAL times!  Yesterday I received a letter in the mail from Macys stating I had applied for a card and declined.  It has also showed up on my credit report as an inquiry.  I'm pretty sure this is illegal and I will be taking action against these scum bags!

    deceptive Macys credit system
...Same problem...different customer.  I purchased a diamond charm for my wife.  at checkout the customer service/cashier informed me that I would get an addtional discount to apply for a Macys card.  So I did so.  Unknowingly, she actually ran my credit report twice (the second credit report was unauthorized) got me approved for a red Macys Star rewards Visa card, and also a white Macys American Express card...at no time during the discussion did she mention anything about the American Express card.  1st, i recevied the Macys Star Rewards Visa ($1200.00 limit) in the mail, then the next day I recevied a white Macys American Express card ($300 limit).  I sent a letter to the credit monitoring service to advise them the 2nd credit check was unauthorized but they do not have a process to removing a credit check once it has been checked by Macys twice for a single store (diamond) purchase.  This occurred in 2007.  Sicne then, macys keeps telling me that my red Macys Star Rewards Visa card is closed/inactive.  However, it is the only card I have ever used in thier store...by the way, just last night a Macys credit card servcies CSR told me he thought my wifes name reminded him of a cows name.  I take offense at that (who would not).  When I told his supervisor this she simply changed the subject...no apologies.  Very arrogant CRS's!  Very rude CSR's but in my heart I believe Macys does have some good people there.  I just want the bad ones fired if possible, and the rude ones educated/trained better.

FYI.  There is a pattern here.  You can just run a Google check for this similar problem of duplicate and unauthorized credit accounts being applied by Macys staff nationwide.  You dont see this many complaints all covering the saem issue of applying for cards for customers who have no idea this is occurring...conning customers.  They must have some sort of employee encentives to get card applications/approvals...the employees are conning & over agressive to get excessive cards applications in instead of listenting to requests & needs of the customers.  Macys has a serious credit card application scam going on nationwide and they need to own up to it and make amends to its customers they are vitimizing.  I am still trying to resolve my issue with mutiple accounts having been opened by macys staff.  Each time i try to fix it, they thing they fix it by reapplying me and lying to me in the process of reapplyign me...they tell me they are fixing it but they just open yeat another account for me.  Stupid(or is it too smart?), non-listening employees.

It's because the incentives to do it are massive. Their key source of profit now is extending credit, not selling stuff.
