Opened Credit Cards without my permission

I made some purchases from the Macy's store in January this year. They had some promotion going, and offered me to become a member to get a discount on my whole purchase. I said I don't want to open a card with them, to which they replied that it's not necessary. I paid for the items with my credit card and left. After three months I got contacted by their collector department that was demanding a payment. Only after minutes into the conversation I realized that he wanted me to pay the amount I already paid again plus a late fee. From his words I opened TWO cards with Macy's and one card has a balance on it I did not pay.

I have been fighting ever since, they had illegally opened the credit cards without my permission and harassing me every day for not paying and threated me for reporting it to credit agency. I have disputed it several time and asked them to show me the proof or signed copy of my receipts
that i have asked to open them the cards and paid it using the store card. But ever after 5 months I have no reply from them.

I purchased an item at Macy's and did not use my Macy's card instead using Discover. The next week I received a letter in the mail that my application for a Macy's card had been declined due to insufficient information.

The same thing happened to my mother. The sales rep told her that her Macy's card was old and needed to be updated, and instead the woman ran an entirely new credit application.   We're all in for a class action suit!  Any other takers??

This just happened to my mom a few days ago while holiday shopping. The lady said she was having trouble finding her account, but that she could reactivate it or some nonsense. She instead ran an application for the American Express Macys.

As I Macy's employee I can tell you there are unfortunately associates who trick customers into opening more than one card.  Sometimes they do it when you forget your card at home.  They ask for your driver's license and any other credit card to print you a shopper's pass.  Macy's doesn't have anything called a shopper's pass.  If you get one, you have just applied for another card.  They do the same is you say you lost your card of have a change of address.  None of these things should ever be done at the register.  All you need to pay if you forget your card is your driver's license and your SS number.  Never put in any other information or you will be applying for another card.  Also, your card NEVER expires.  That is another trick associates will do.  They will say your card expired and you have to get a new one.  I can do it for you at the register.  Never fall for any of these tricks.  It's just people trying to make their credit quota!  (Yes, there is a certain amount of credits each employee must open or get fired.)

Macys Customer Disservice replies to Mary Smith
The bottom line is results, your results, which are unhappy customers. Period. It's called customer service so when the customer experience is a feeling of disservice then something is wrong with your company's process. When the customer ends up feeling like they have to be on guard around sales people who used to look after them then Macy's has failed by continuing to employ them.

The biggest profit margin now is in extending credit. People need to know first and foremost that Macy's wants to get you into another credit card more than anything else.

Call your state attorney general's office and give details and wait. Any new account holders here? Good luck trying to place an order or make a payment. FYI DO NOT SHOP ONLINE AT MACYS

File your complaints with the Consumer Financial Protection Bureau.  They have been collecting consumer complaints regarding lending practices, including deceptive disclosures, fraudulent fees and charges, and  problems with payday lenders.

CFPB was created and given specific authority to regulate consumer lending under the Dodd-Frank Act, and they been particularly aggressive at pursuing deceptive practices.  For example, CFPB and FDIC sued Discover over cramming "credit protection" charges onto consumer credit cards.  Discover quickly settled, agreeing to pay over $200 Million in fines and refunds.

If Macys employees are fabricating consumer credit applications and accounts without consumers' explicit approval, that violates numerous federal laws.

I purchased a patio set in July of 2014 and paid for it with my debit card I was told at the time that some of the pieces were on back order until the beginning of august.  August comes and goes so I call and they say oh the company stopped producing it for the season we are getting anymore in until January 21015 Ridiculous!  Well about a week ago I get the email to schedule my delivery not that it matters since january in PA doesn't allow you much use of your patio set.  I scheduled it for later this week.  A few days later I get a phone call saying that the authorization hold on my account expired (obviously)  That I needed to call by 9:00 AM on the 13th to give them permission to reauthorize it or my order would have to be put on hold.  Well I was going to call them today but when i checked my account this morning come t find out they processed it again without my permission and overdrafted my account in the process.  Called the bank issued a stop payment and filed a dispute claim.  Call Macy's and spoke to a supervisor Christiam (yes that is the correct spelling)  and was basically told there was nothing he could do but call the bank to stop the payment but I had already done that.  Didn't want to refund my bank fees or try and save the sale with any offer to try and make things better.  Wow!

I was an employee for Bloomingdales for two years. They literally force you to open a pre paid card which is not the same as a credit card, but incentivized you to spend money since it made it easier and there were employee discounts.
They changed my card to a revolving credit card without my permission and when I called they apologized and said they would fix it, a year later I am currently on the phone with them trying to get them to remove interest charges and refund them to me and close my account, not surprisingly I am being told no and being left on hold to try and force me into hanging up. I totaled my last years expenditures to the company and it is over 5 grand, I am asking for around 150.00 in charges to be refunded to me since I did not apply for a credit card and just assumed I was staying ahead of my pre paid card by constantly putting money on it and didn't know about the charges until I am having to quit and went over all my credit cards online and saw I was still being charged as if it were a credit card. This is ridiculous and illegal.

Kay jewlers did something similar, I don't know what to do. They said they were goin to open a customer account for tracking articles I liked. I became concerned when he asked for my social, of course he had me enter it without him looking. But i should've stoped here. When he finished he said I qualified for X amount of credit. I told him that's not what I wanted. He said not to worry about it, but this week I received a credit card from them. I am in the process of purchasing a home and di not want more credit cards in my name. I know this will affect
My credit, does anyone know of legal process for this company or person having done this?

Looks like Macy's is continuing this process for the last 10 years, going by the dates of the complaints here. I was recently coaxed in to applying for a store card during black friday....i was never told at the store that they will apply for another amex card. When i called their customer complaint, after a loooong wait, i am told that this was written in the terms & conditions, which of course i didnt read during the busy sale....what a black friday!!!!
