I was told by AT&T that I would pay a total of $87 plus change and taxes etc for a total of $106.  This included my home phone, DSL modem and Direct TV.  I also ordered the exact same package for my son's home.  We were to receiveover 200 channels, HD and premium channels for 3 months.  I get no where near 200 channels, the bill for each of my two accounts exceeds $106 for Direct TV alone!  Also, my son's account is being charged for DVR, which I do not have and did not order.  It has been the most enfuriating chain of events over the last several weeks to resolve the billing and equipment issues because every time I would finally talk to a human, I would explain everything all over again while being stonewalled, then transferred again, put on hold and eventually a recording that says, "If you wish to make a call, please hang up and try again!"   Enough!!!

I'm mad as hell and not going to take it anymore!!!  When they tell you not to get upset, then lie to you or start the whole dog chasing it's tail all over again, it is hard to be civil.   IF there is a class action lawsuit ot there than I can join, please let me know.  DO NOT do business with this company.  Don't let them have a credit card or debit card number.  Pay by order! I have served my country on three continents and I have always done things with honor.  I didn't do all that so I could come home and be cheated and swindled by a company that hides behind 800 numbers.  I would certainly love to know where their corporate offices are!

You are "dealing with bait" and switch consumer fraud.
It is so common with satellite TV that both of the major providers have been sued by the attorneys general of many states.

Contact your local district attorney or your state Attorney General.  They may be subject to a settlement agreement.

DirectTV to pay North Carolina $5M in settlement
    Triangle Business Journal

North Carolina and 21 other states reached a resolution with satellite television company DirectTV on Monday over charges that the company used misleading advertisements to lure customers into hidden fees.

The agreement, made between the El Segundo, Calif., company and the attorneys general of 22 states, will require the company to reform its advertising and pay refunds to customers who were misled, according to a statement released by North Carolina Attorney General Roy Cooper

DirectTV will pay $5 million to each state and an additional amount for customer refunds that has yet to be capped. The company must also clearly display the total cost of the service and equipment on its advertisements.

The charges stem from complaints across the country that DirectTV's ads contained small, unreadable print that altered the offer made in the ads' larger print, according to Cooper.

Eighty-nine North Carolina customers filed complaints with Cooper's office since 2001.

"Using unfair ads to sign up customers, then sticking them with extra hidden fees in the fine print is no way to do business," Cooper said. "I'm pleased that we've stopped these misleading ads and that customers will now have an opportunity to get their money back."

North Carolina customers who have complaints about the service or their contract with DirectTV may be eligible for a refund, Cooper said.

Also included in the agreement are Delaware, Florida, Georgia, Idaho, Illinois, Kansas, Maryland, Massachusetts, Montana, Nebraska, Nevada, New Jersey, New Mexico, New York, Ohio, Oregon, Pennsylvania, Tennessee, Texas, Vermont and West Virginia.

How directv is still in business is beyond me.I've had them for 7+ years , and besides them leasing their  equipment then charging an addintional 5.99 to protect it most of them were good until 2 years ago.Well the final whammy all happened in the past 3-4 months.I lost a job i've been at for 10 years , due to the economic times , in November work slowed down so bad it was pay my diretv bill or feed my family.Well I called directv to cancel and explained my situation. The CSR seemed so nice , gave me credits so my bill was far less.Well the end of the year work shut it's doors , I got a new job working for a condo building , part of package I have to live on site , well they dont allow satellite , so I called directv to cancel , the CSR says ok , I said send me a final bill and I'll pay it in 2 payments. She said no problem sir , well less then a week later directv used my debit card (without permission) to take out an outragous amount forcing me to go overdrawn.I called and emailed directv , noone helped me , So I filed a complaint with the BBB , and atty' general's office , and of course disputed it with my bank. All the directv CSR say is , we dont need to give you a notice , or paper bill it's in our service agreement.

That is dated 2005 it is now 2010 and DirectTV still does the same thing to its customers.I cannot see as they have changed a bit if anything the complaints have risen from their customers.I just cannot believe it!!!
