32 inch flat screen that worked fine. Local install contractor company said it was old, would only reimburse $70. That won't replace it.

Most of the local "contractors" that people deal with are actually "subcontractors" who do NOT actually work for DirecTV. They are also NOT covered under DirecTV's insurance policies for damages caused by it's employees. Anytime you see a repair or service truck from a cable or satellite company and the vehicle has magnets on the doors stating that they are an "Authorized Contractor", most of the time they are nothing more than a fly by night company that DirecTV picked up to do some of their contracting work. ALWAYS request to see their business license, company address, phone number and if they are both insured and licensed to do business in your state.
You are correct that subcontractors are not directv employees. It's in the name. There are typically 3 types of people who install for dtv- direct employees, subcontractors, and retailers. Retailers everybody should watch out for. However, subcontractors tend to be subjected to all the rules, testing, background checks, and damage claims that every directv employee is. If fact, it can be very costly to become an actual subcontractor for directv. Both satellite companies have put extreme pressure on their subcontractors to be as close as possible to an employee without them actually be one. This is a change that has going on for the past few years. Even in 2011.

techs aren't suppose to touch your tv unless you are to lazy to move your own equipment. You are suppose to move your stuf,f not the tech for that very reason so by not moving your own things out of the techs way you suffer the risk of things getting broke. Don't be lazy or do you do it in hope that this very thing may happen so you can try and get a new tv.
My Tech Broke My Xbox Kinect And I Wasnt Mad; i Just Want It Replaced. He Was Trying To Move It So It Didn't Break. I Feel Bad For Him. He Didn't Even Know What It Was. I Didn't Know They Had To Move So Much. I Don't Want Him To Get Into Trouble, But I Shouldn't Have To Pay To Replace It. He Said He Would Come WitH Money Tomorrow. We Will See.

tech are almost always is proffesional,the customer are lazy and so stoped,tech come to the house install the system not clean closet or move tv.i have 8 year experience with customer and i know the customers like exploit the techs,
